The Georgetown Arenas Task Force, set up by council earlier this month, will be directed to make rec- ommendations to council by April 30, 2009 on the future of Memorial Arena and on the provision of addi- tional ice surfaces in Georgetown. Ward 2 Councillor Bryan Lewis will chair the task force. I am very pleased with the resi- dents who have stepped up in the formation of the Georgetown Arenas Task Force. It represents the users of the facilities and residents who have a concern going forward to the amount of recreational uses the are- nas may or may not supply, Lewis said in a Town press release yester- day (Thursday). In addition to Lewis, task force members include Mayor Rick Bonnette, who will serve as vice chair, Ward 2 Councillor Dave Kentner, Ward 4 Councillor John Duncan, Chief Administrative Officer Dennis Perlin, Director of Recreation and Parks Terry Aly- man, and community members: Jay Anderson, President of Halton Mens Hockey League; Todd Kearney, president Halton Hills Minor Lacrosse Association; Hal Pells, president of Georgetown Minor Hockey Association; Laura Rees, president of Georgetown Skating Club; Grace Rylett, presi- dent of Halton Hills Twisters Hockey, John Templeman, Mens non-contact Hockey League and also the Georgetown Mens Ball Hockey League and Halton Hills residents Cheryl Niewendyk and Tom Wharton. The Task Force will soon meet to set the Terms of Reference and start the process of investigation and researching the current and future needs of the arenas in Georgetown. The Task Force will have tremendous responsibility in map- ping out a future blueprint of our arena facilities; they are eager to get going, said Bonnette.
