So, if youre tempted to start, ask yourself, Is it worth it? 12 Acton/Georgetown, Friday, October 24, 2008 A joint Board Meeting of the Acton Seniors Recreation Centre and Georgetown Seniors Centre was held at the Civic Centre on October to endorse the final draft of the Strategic Plan. The Plan was developed, over three years, by a joint committee of Acton and Georgetown Seniors Centres. It acknowl- edges both common and distinct needs and opportunities among the two Centres and it is hoped that, through the Strategic Plan, to improve and increase services at both Centres. The Strategic Plan was unanimously adopted by the Boards of both Acton and Georgetown and has, thus, become an ongoing working document. Congratulati- ons to all who helped to make this possible. The Day Trippers are on the road again! This time we are off to the Royal Winter Fair on Tuesday, November 11 for a cost of $30. This includes your bus ride, entrance fees, and drivers tip. We depart from Mold-Masters SportsPlex 9:30 a.m. and leave the CNE grounds approximately 3:30 p.m. Again this trip is open to anyone 55+ .You will need to register at the Reception Desk no later than Oct. 31. You may call 905-877-6444. A new feature at the Centre is Sandwich Tuesday. Between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. you will be able to purchase a sandwich for $1.50. What a deal! On Wednesday, October 29, the Centre is holding its first Wine and Cheese, 6-9 p.m. We are celebrating the work of our Art, Crafts, and Wood working groups. Seniors Centres endorse local Strategic Plan draft FLORENCE RIEHL Georgetown Seniors Centre A fundraising event will be held for the International Book Buddy Trust on November 8, 7 p.m. Local organizers are collecting books to send to Malawi, a country where there are virtually no books and hence poor literacy. This book-oriented event, at St. Johns United Church, 11 Guelph St., in Georgetown, will include food and entertainment. Participants are urged to bring a new, or gently new, book to be part of a silent auction. During the evening you can extol the virtues of your book and encourage people to make a higher bid. I spent a few days with my daughter and her family in Halifax and enjoyed the beautiful fall colours there as well. You will notice some construction in the next few weeks around the entrance to the Acton Seniors Centre. The front path is being revamped, the flag pole moved and a new pathway constructed from the soccer field parking lot to the Centre. During this period please use either the kitchen entrance (which will be open) or the main entrance to the arena. At the Evening Euchre on Wednesday, Oct. 15, the lone hand was held by Henry Wedge and the high man was Arnold. Donna was the high lady and the booby was Stella. You can tell its a very friendly game as I only have the first names for most of the winners. The next game will be on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 7:15 p.m. If you enjoy playing euchre come out and meet some new friends. I see the travel desk has a signup sheet for The Sound of Music on Wednesday, Feb. 18. The Looking to the Future Committee have a great dinner planned for Wednesday, Nov. 5. Dave and Margaret Dodgson are resurrect- ing their experienced crew and cater- ing the dinner. Following the dinner Reg Marsh and Elaine (Reg Marsh Associates) will make a presentation on taxation benefits and how it could affect you and save you and your estate money when you make a donation to a charitable cause, such as the Acton Seniors Centre. Tickets are available at the front desk. There will be a Seniors Wellness clinic on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at the Gellert Centre in Georgetown. Anyone who attended the one here last year knows what a wealth of information can be gained from attending. You will also be able to get your flu shot at the same time.
