16 Independent & Free Press, Wednesday, October 29, 2008 in the road. At times we started to get away from what we were doing well before and made some shortcuts that got us into trou- ble. Raider defender Chris Borges scored just one minute into Saturdays contest but the Jr. Sabres took advantage of Kyle Esserys major penalty for head checking to score three times on the power play. Third-period markers by Jeremy Wick and Jordan Dewey cut Buffalos lead to 4-3 before an empty-netter ended Georgetowns win streak at 13. The Raiders outshot Streetsville 39-30 at the Westwood Arenas Sunday, yet trailed the Derbys 3-1 in the final frame as Georgetown Minor Hockey Association product J.P. Villeneuve had one of the Derby goals. After Georgetown scored two late goals to force extra time, OJHL leading scorer Brandon Pirri capitalized on a breakaway for Streetsvilles clincher. Marcus Pryde and David Mathers also found net for the visitors. Injuries and suspensions could leave the Raiders short-staffed for their lone game this week, at home to Vaughan Saturday at the Alcott Arena at 7:30 p.m. Blueliner Nick Avgerinos hurt an ankle on the weekend, while Essery might be out Saturday because of the head-checking penalty, although Richmond has appealed to the OHA offices with a videotape to hopefully have the two-game sus- pension cut to one. Georgetowns Tasha Truscott has broken her share of individ- ual Canadian and provincial swimming records and shes now making it a team effort. The 14-year-old was a member of the Etobicoke Swim Club relay foursome that recently bettered five national age group times, six Ontario records and seven bench- marks previously set by her home club, which hosted the 2008 Hall of Fame meet at the Etobicoke Olympium. Truscott, along with team- mates Lauren Earp, Jacqueline Keire and Brittany MacLean, are national age group record holders in the relay for the 200m and 400m freestyle events in both the short and long course distances, as well as the long course 200m medley race. A Grade 10 student at Silverthorn Collegiate in Etobicoke, Truscott also owns the Canadian record for the 13-14 age group in the 100m long course butterfly. Outscoring their opponents 16-3, the Georgetown Soccer Clubs under-10 all-stars capped off their season by winning the Whitby Iroquois Girls Youth Soccer Tournament.
