hosts at a get acquainted party in Balllnafad Community Hall Friday night They returned to these farms for their last week in Ontario At the Hunter farm Heather Is learning everything she can about sheep and beef steers On Keith is getting to know the dairy business at the Swackhamcr century old Guernsey farm have never been with dairy cattle or sheep before admitted Heather and am trying to must strive to meet competition With great increases in apple acreage being planted in North America during recent years a great deal of competition for markets from other apple growing regions is anticipated Apple growers in Ontario will have to become more efficient In the use of land labor and good cultural practises to meet this competition To assist growers to this end a series of special meetings are being held in six locations across the province sponsored by the Ontario Apple Commission and the Ontario Department of Agriculture and Food Meet Sept The meeting being held for apple satisfaction and to meet com petition two talks with emphasis on quality will be presented at this meeting Mr Reid Dunham of the Farm Products Inspection Branch will discuss the selection and grading of a pies for con trolled atmosphere storage and Sam University of will discuss indices for determining optimum maturity in Mcintosh apples To accommodate such a full program the meeting will get underway at clock Show calves The second part of the meeting look place the farm of Mr Bob and Cathy showed calves shorthorns and Russell Murray showed Bill as he was absent President Bob talked about showmanship and Its importance The rest of the members then led the calves with Russell Murray as judge Next all calves were led back to the barn except one which was used for a demonstration Bob Lasby conducted this demonstration on cleaning clipping and grooming the calf Following this was the official opening of the meeting which had been postponed in order to beat the dark The President
