consider allowing the treasurer to pay accounts before council sees them if there isa discount involved If there are significant savings we might recommend it committee chairman Pat McKcnzio said Monday night Acting treasurer Grant Usher told the committee that there were often discounts available which would be too late if they waited for council approval Council would still be aote to see tnc accounts alter they were paid he staled and the amount saved could be considerable How much in discounts would we get over a year asked one committee member Could be as much as said Henry of the and equipment use The Plowing Match will be held from September to Sep tember At a works committee meeting on July Council lor Em Hyde recommended that the Plowing Match pay the Town per hour for a garbage truck and Iho Tor a minimum of three hours each day Town Engineer Mor ris had suggested that the cost would be 100 a day for four hours work but plowing match officials Ross worth and George Read head out that It might not as long as four hours to collect Ihe garbage They think that it might take only an hour to an hour and a half for their leers to collect the estimated barrels which will late each day at the fair The committee then decid ed to go to the hourly rate and Hyde pointed out that it would have to be for at least three hours since the men the town will have to be paid for at least thai long It was decided that it would be better for plowing match officials to deal directly with Region on the subject of garbage disposal The town s estimated cost did not include the Region a ton dumping charge and it was suggested the plowing match might get a deal from the Region than the town would There is also the problem that the dump will not be open at night when the garbage is ready to be dumped They might be able to leave it in the truck all night and dump it come morning Hyde said On the whole dumping cost Committee Chairman said We might all be guessing wrong on the costs but by handling it this way we will at least be being fair to both the town and plowing match Use of a town grader and water truck will also be at the plowing match disposal al one with snow said that the plowing match would be able to use snow fence the same as other groups putting on public events have in the past The plowing match needs 1 BOO feet of snow fence to enclose their field It will have to be returned in the same condition or the town compensated for re pairs cautioned begs worth assured the committee the snow fence would be quite safe from damage Plowing Match officials had asked that the Line be closed between the fifth and 10 but it was decided that barriers preventing through traffic would be necessary Morris pointed out there arc around homes in that ana so the road would have to be left open to local traffic noted people living in that area would be given passes so they can get through know the town t to gouge us and wt too worried about costs
