m OUR READERS WRITE Holmes wants job defined REPORT OF ATTACKS UNTRUE UNFOUNDED Dear Sir In regards to your report on the presentation of Its brief by the Renaissance Committee to the Board of Education Aug 28 reference was made by your reporter to personal and malicious attacks that had earlier become the hallmark of the Renaissance Committee That characterization of the Renaissance Committee is totally untrue and unfounded in fact It it a fact that some of us In Renaissance have been the objects of cross misrepresentations by educators ana even on occasion in the press You refer to Mr Jim Singleton who had suffered blunt personal attacks during the early stages of the Renaissance Committee campaign You failed to report that whatever charges were made by anyone In Renaissance In this connection related to Mr Singletons unethical comments to the press about the protests of a parent over some shocking Irresponsibilities In the system and of protests over Mr Singletons equally unethical conduct in response to a personal parental request for an appropriate apology In the cir cumstances Moreover your reporter failed to note the following comments I made In my statement introducing the brief to the Board of Education Because of the Integrity of our concern we have not hesitated to use plain language We bear malice toward none As I stated to Mr Keith Craig principal of M Robinson high school In an open letter February I have already offered my apologies Tor any hurt that I have caused anyone In the process of presenting my protest and calling for a renaissance In our school system Surgery may bo painful and Inconvenient but better to suffer while seeking a cure than to die because we didnt As offered those apologies to Mr Craig and his staff in his office on Feb 1974 do so now publicly to anyone In the system or beyond whom I may have Inadvertently harmed in the course of this crusade We appreciate the apology extended to us by trustee ten Crosier for the offense to our conscience caused by the Outdoor service for Evangel Outdoor church service was held Sunday evening by Evangel Pentecostal Taber nacle The service was at parking lot with a good amplification system which made the music audible for several blocks around Some sat In parked cars to listen to the service Harold Roberts and Hllller played guitars Mr and Mrs Harold Roberts sang duets Gary Foster Brian and sang trios Rev S conducted the service The first outdoor service three weeks ago was held at the vacant lot at the corner of Queen and Churchill The next week the congregation met at the new bandstand at the part but found there was unannounced visit by Gay Lib to the high school our daughters attend which triggered our initial protest Apart from Mr voluntary phonecall In that connection it Is a matter of record that noone In the who has been responsible Tor offending us has suggested The mayor of one of the municipalities in the Halton region commented to me several weeks ago that If been such an admission of irresponsibility by an ap propriate educational official Initially there probably would never have been such a protest movement amongst the people over the unresponsiveness of the educational system The fact that there was no such response then or since only em the unresponsiveness of the system to the people The Renaissance Committee has recommended The Open Door Policy to alleviate such unresponsiveness but if the policy Is going to be effective It will be necessary for the educators as well as the parents to recognize
