contributed to a successful Softball Season More lhan three hundred boys and girls participated in House League and the Hallon Rural Minor Softball Association For the first time we were represented in the Ontario Amateur Softball Association Playoffs and although the results were somewhat disappointing on Ihe score sheet the venture proved to be an interesting and an educational experience for all con Although Regional Government fre quently provokes negative responses from many quarters I am happy to report that we had excellent cooperation from both Works Department and the Recreation Department of the Town of Hills Maintenance of the playing field has been good improvements though slow In coming have been made Assistance from the Recreation Department has been in the form of coaching clinic and winter training facilities They also gave us the opportunity to operate the booth in the perk which proved to be a profitable undertaking due mainly to the hard work of Mrs Verna 15 year veteran Through the of Wintarlo the Provincial Government generously provided us with a substantial grant for equipment For this we are very dative However our association has one linger problem We do not have a lack of eager and enthusiastic young people but we do have far too few adults willing to coach or take other positions of responsibility within the organization We require at least twelve hard working people to serve in other cities other than coaching In addition we need at least forty people to serve as coaches scorers and managers During this past season the running of the organ was left entirely to three or four people This was totally unsatisfactory Not all the problems were properly solved Some parents and players were frustrated because of It In short we need more people All interested persons are invited to at tend the Annual Meeting of the Minor Ball Association at the Acton Public Library on Tuesday November at 7 Lastly the Executive of the A B A would like to thank the Acton Free Press for continuous interest and support Yours very truly Robert Paul President Acton Minor Association The Acton Free Press Wed November 1976 13 Ivan Armstrong will attempt a comeback Former Milton Trustee Ivan Armstrong has an nounced he will seek election to the Board Of in Wards One and Three during the upcoming December election Mr Armstrong represented the town on the board for one term but was defeated when seats were redistributed and he ended up fighting and los ing an election to Bill Over and above his term as trustee Mr Armstrong served four years on the board s advisory vocational committee I have some experience and would like to use it Board learns I m not critical of the board they are doing every thing they can On core curriculum I have the feeling that in the early 60s the public and the teachers were complaining and things swung the other way Now there is criticism that it has swung loo far he explained Seek balance Mr Armstrong said it would be important to find a happy balance but he would not support a return to the rigid system of the and early s He said the board would have to contend with strict budgetary regulations The public is saying we want a good education system but we don want to increase the education share of the budget Because of that the only new programs that are brought in will hove to be brought at the expense of lesser programs A resident of Ward Two Mr Armstrong has decided to run in the rural wards with a view to filling a seat left un occupied by Trustee Doug Wood I know a lot of people in he rural area and I own land in Campbeilville he ex plained Mr Armstrong is years old the father of three child ren and an employee of Canadian Meter Company FOUR YEAROLD Robinson went out on
