his friends have been down to Jenny Kuiken reported on the Nursery she now has children at he nursery which is quite a drop from last year due to the opening of the Developmental Center which took quite a few of older children and provided them with a much needed service Jenny said she has quite a few volunteers but could always use more and the Developmental Center des perately needs volunteers The next meeting will be on November 23 at at the home of Mrs Ruby and anyone interested in joining the auxiliary or anyone with any questions on any of the various services offered by North Association for Ihe Mentally Retarded will be made most welcome Missionary in India UCW guest speaker A missionary in India for years ranees Buckles was guest speaker at Ihe United Church Women Thankof fenng meeting Sunday evening Oct 24 Miss Buckles spoke lovingly of the Indian people and her work there Of the five wee baby girls she raised as her own four are now nurses one a housewife Four of them ore married This unmarried girl is continuing her studies for her A degree Slides of Indian life were shown Miss Buckles work took her from Bombay to Cal and Nepal to Madras She spoke highly of the work of Indira Gandhi Her final words were that unless your work carries on when you leave you have not been a success Take part Mrs Lilian Eaton intro duced Miss Buckles and Dorothy Simmons thanked her and presented her with a Rift Gail Helen Little and the Rev Beaton also look part in the program Miss Buckles was a nursing superintendent and principal of the school of nursing in Glenoldcn Pennsylvania Oliver first Queen Ily Susan Johnson October has been an peclatly busy month for Phi as October was a rush social for the prospective pledges It held at Ihi home of Maureen Burrows with members taking a pot luck supper The theme of the social was Thanksgiving with the main course being turkey cranberries scalloped potatoes salads rolls and dessert After dinner Ihcre wore games and dancing with spot prizes and a lot of fun On October we had a Model meeting This was at Lynda Griffins and the guests were told briefly of Ihe aspects of Beta Sigma Phi Ihen each member explained what each officer and com mittee was responsible for This was followed by a pro gram on Literature Prose given by Susan Johnson with a game next with prizes for everyone Also at this meeting a vole was taken lo choose a tine Queen The girls in the chapter were happy to con Marg Oliver as Phi first Valentine Queen The guests at this meeting were asked to join our chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and we v ere really thrilled to welcome Ihe following six girls Sue Peggy Johnson Kempton Marion Matthews Kalie But Paula The dessert for this evening was a cake made by Donna Moore the chapter s Social chairman It was iced with white icing and decoraled with yellow roses with Welcome to Theta Phi written on it The Sherry gift this evening was given by Maureen Burrows and won by Susan Johnson The next meeting was October 19 and was held at Carol Byrne Plans were made this evening for a social pledge and pledge dinner The program was I re- Poetry and was done by Maureen Burrows Mini pizzas coffee and lea were served with Ihe pizza s being made by the co- hostess Terry A Valentine cake and a charm in the shape of a crown were given lo the Valentine Queen The Sherry gift for this meeting was given by Terry and won by Marion Matthews A mixed bowling social was held October 23 at Georgetown Bowl with a party following Carol and Myron Byrne A card game was played and then everyone enjoyed a mid snack of chili rolls and coffee Following the social was the Preferential Punch Pledge Ritual held on October at St Church in Georgetown This was put on by the Hills Co ordinating
