On tarlo Solicitors for the Executor Jul Reed The Acton Free Press Wednesday June 22 Looking forward to term As energy critic for the Lib era party Julian Reed re elected MPP for lington is looking forward with excitement towards the new session at Queen Park next Monday Reed says the Liberals as the new official opposition party utter edging out the 3433 In the June 9 elect ion will have much more to say in the development of Ontario I feel we can come to grips and do something about the problems In this province he said One Issue Mr Reed wants to tackle Is that of regional government Recently McKeough the provincial treasurer and Minister of Economics and Inter govern mental Affairs said an in dependent review of regional government in Hamilton would be tablished and Mr Reed said he is hoping for a similar com for Mr Reedsaidhebellevcdin cooperation between muni cipalitics but dldn think that required the creation of another level of government Mr Reed felt it is only that municipalities co operate in such areas as developing waste recovery systems and planning but he dldn t concede that areas such as these should be the basis for regional government The problem with regional government according to Mr Reed is that it divorces Itself from the people and the com muni ties It serves There is no way he average person can relate to the region he said The regional structure re moves itself from the real political base which is community and that one son why it doesn work well Mr Reed added He felt this was especially true in Halton We have distinct individual communities and we re asking these communities to give up JULIAN REED Minister of Environment ad mltling that what Mr Reed is saying is not all that bad Mr Reed said he hopes to make some headway Into 10O per cent resource recovery by increasing the pressure on Mr Kerr to recognize its existence I consider this my responsibility and will do everything possible to push the government into recogniz lngthls Mr Reed added that the Liberal party backs the development of resource re covery systems because garbage is a province wide problem If this session lasts long enough I think we will get an active commitment from the government in that dlrec lion he said It has to happen Its only natural On a provincial wide basis Mr Reed hopes the Liberals can work with the provincial government In establishing a competent job creation their sovereignty to subject themselves to something they can In the next session Mr Heed also hopes to deal indirectly with the location of the regional landfill Site I south of Milton which Ihe 1 remains Britannia Citizens Group is attempting to block through the legal process I have no influence on regional decision said Mr Reed But I can plead the case personally and I have done so in as many able ways to support the people Mr Heed however feels the re answer to the problem ib to push the provincial government to allocate funds for the construction of 100 per cent resource recovery plants instead of having muni more fill sites In past Kerr the Minister of f has denied the existence of per cent isle recovery system hut Mr Reed claims they do lie is with us now slid Mr Its simply a mailer of work in the spirit of coopera which is more likely than before he said We should be able to say to the govern meat If you don t have a good program use ours Mr Reed hopes the Con will look Into a pro gram to help make home In sulation standard In homes though he admitted the Liberals woufdn demand it be made compulsory in each home One of the issues the Liberals will be stressing in the next session said Mr Reed Wed love to help you MORTGAGE FUNDING JULY square store frontMill parklno Suitable for store office warehousing Phono B53 ft suit plan designed by Regional Solicitor R M Mar tin to obtain the necessary approvals for a major landfill site in Milton The action approved at council meeting Wednesday sets the forum for another court battle between the re gion and the Citizens Group The group has been fighting the battle for more than a year now David Katz a spokesman for the group said it would appear there is no alternative for the citizens group and that the group will more than likely take the region to court He said he was busy setting up a meeting with the group solicitor Environmental Lawyer David said the action taken by the council is clearly illegal and defies an order handed down earlier this spring by the Supreme Court of Ontario The four steps reeom mended by Martin include making application to the Town of
