74 loss Sabres defence dull drop decision Acton Sabres defence failed in the second period Friday as Brampton them in the frame to take a win When we get the defence set it will settle the whole team said coach Bruce Chapman Mike Major who suffered an eye Injury in the first game of the season against Georgetown Is back In form now and he is defin itely going to help declared Chapman There are two new defence- men trying out for the team but Chapman did not want to say anything about them until he had a chance to talk to them First score Brampton got on the score board first when Paul took a pass from Ron Kerr and Gord Smith and de posited It behind Kent fatt Acton came back with 41 seconds left In the frame when Rob went In for an unassisted marker to tie the score Second hurt It was the second frame which hurt the Sabres as Brampton counted three goals inside five minutes to take an insurmountable lead By the time the Sabres got back on an even keel they were trailing Jeff Shields been hurt by misbehav iour Up to Fridays game they had been the arles in the penalty game by keeping their heads and let ting the other teams take the penalties It was the tupe of game where the fellows are going to have to learn to adjust to the officiating They called a tight game and did a good Job said Chapman Sabres took minutes In penalties in the game including a five minute fighting call against Doug Elliott The game also marked the first time this season Dave Chapman and Brian Walker have been shut out of the scoring The Sabres their opponents 37 to 30 in the game but the weak Scotland land of water has a sport all its own On my recent trip to Scotland I learned about a new sport new to me at least which would have come in handy during the last few months in Canada Scotland as everybody knows has lots of hills all of which should be great for skiing However there Is not much snow in many places so the locals have taken ad vantage of the area featured weather rain to invent their own sport Dryland water skiing has many advantages over the type done out on a lake For one thing you dont need a boat water skiing but in Scotland the downhill variety Is favored Because of all the hills it la almost impossible to find any place that Is flat for more than a few feet so downhill Is unavoidable The sport had its origins In the dim past of Scotlands It Id rumored that it is the method used by the clans during the great purges to stay hidden Tbey would carry their bagpipes to a suitable lonely hill play them until they saw the British coming and then ski away while the Redcoats got trying tofollow The sport was called dryland water skiing in a fit of whimsy by Robert Bums who theorized that the land in Scotland was really just very dirty water anyway and only marginally drier than Loch Ness Equipment for the sport has become much more sophisticated In the last century Where haggis bones strapped to the feet used to be the most popular method of descent deepvee hulls and really fancy bin clings have taken over Some people still use wooden slats and it is rumored that there are still Highlanders in the outback of Scotland using the traditional haggis bones but the cold march of science has done much to improve this sport There are dryland water skiing resorts scattered around the Cairngorm mountains the way there are scales on a fish They virtually overlap In many areas Few unspoilt areas are left in which the slovenly highland barbarian can ply his ancient ways in peace Anyway what with all the nice weather we had in the course of this execrable summer I just thought this would be a good sport to look into Especially if the rain kept up Which it did Governmental Decentralization experts its good for health The recent government decentralization has been decried by many politicians as a blatantly opportunist and partisan manoeuvre since 11 of offices being set up are being setup in Liberal ridings This may be true but it is not important When you think of how much good decentralization can do for the physical fitness level in the country all objections pale in comparison No longer will somebody trying to fight city hall be able to find all his enemies in one place No more will the downtrodden masses be able to walk across the street to register a complaint Now everyone who wants the government will have to jog all over the country if he wants to get satisfaction out of theclvil service Can you imagine the surprise on somebodys face when be is told Im sorry thats not our department Youll have to try soandso In Quebec Or maybe New Brun swick In effect the government has made it Impossible to argue You cant trust your problems to the mall for sure and nobody in his right mind would ever try to call a government official on the phone The only avenue left la to walk from office to office to deliver your complaints In person Because there will always be complainers there will always be people walking from office to office hither and thither and the net result will be a boom in shoe sales and a greatly increased level of fitness in Canadians Health no protection against heart attacks An anatomy professor from McMaster has asserted physical fitness has no bearing on heart attacks He claims that only In so far as exercise keeps your weight down is it any good Interesting news for joggers over Congratulations to Acton fastball tournament The organizers of the Acton Fastball Tournament deserve a little bit of for having run as successful a tourney as they did in spite of the terrible weather available through a few merchants in town but mostly through the executive Unless you nave a guy on the executive its tough to push him Merchants are mainly concerned with ling their product Raffles The team Is planning a number of raffles to help raise money Draws have been held at each of the games and have proved very successful Weve made good money out of the raf fles Ball commented They have three televisions to raffle donated by Halton Hills Furniture The draws will be spread out with one probably in November one near Christmas and another at the end of the season ac cording to Ball
