The Acton Free Press Wednesday Dec 21 1977 Contest winners chosen by Santa Authier Carolyn Vander Akker and Nancy Mandarino each walked off with first prize in their category in the Free Press Christmas Coloring Contest Each will receive five dollars as their reward for the four to six years age group Carolyn for the seven to ten year olds and Nancy for the 11 to 13category Second place winners are Tracey four to six Tina seven to ten and Helen They will each receive three dollars Third place winners are Eric Huff of Ottawa four to six Betty Hanson seven to ten and Rhonda Barrett to They will all receive cheques worth Santa was the judge and was very pleased with the entries There was a total of 103 colorings for him to peruse up more than from last year Santa says the seven to ten age group was the most popular with entries followed closely by the youngest group with entries There were only six entries in the 11 to 13 group Unfortunately five childrens entries did not get judged as they got into the Free Press office too late The deadline was last Friday and colorings were coming in as late as yesterday Tuesday long after Santa had judged them Santa feels bad about the late arrivals but pointed out children had one week longer to do the work than last year The jolly old man said he hopes this newspaper will run the same contest next year as he enjoys being the judge Right now he is busy answering last minute letters from children and resting up for Saturday nights worldwide trip Cheques have been mailed out to all second and third place winners First place girls team of Holy Cross In Georgetown won the girls finals The team St Patricks in Bifrlington won the buys finals Even though our teams werent in the finals Mr McGeragles good coaching brought us a long way Good work team Basketball practices are already underway The finals will probably be in late February The grade seven and eight class have done a good job in organizing our days which are held every Thursday The money which we are making will go towards school uniforms This coming Thursday report cards will be given out School finishes at two oclock on the same day MZ Bennett news by Diana Last Friday the Grade A and Girls Volleyball championship was held The teams playing were the Expos va the Canadiena The Expos won the game by a score of 1513 The past week saw a great deal of Christmas throughout our school These were held In both the primary and junior divisions As usual the parent volunteers have been a big help with these activities Yesterday at the entire school went over to the Middle School to hear a band concert The Acton District High School Band performed Last Friday all of the gifts and canned goods donated by our students were delivered to the These gifts girls were enrolled Some of the girls mothers were there After enrolment we played a game with the parents and guide leaders then we started our Christmas party All girls received a present Brown Owl VanderEyken handed out the presents The enrolment committee had refreshments and cookies All the girls enjoyed the Christ mas party On December Guides was cancelled and our swimming party was can celled too Captain Vaughan was very sick by Bray Tuesdays meeting was a scene of a delightful party Each person brought a present and Tawney Owl put a name tag on each one We sang carols Away in a Manger We Three Kings Jingle Bells Rudolph the RedNosed Reindeer and Joy to the World Then we made a useful craft to put your Christmas cards on It has a Santa Claus head on it and a roll of cloth attached to it and It hangs down and you fasten your card on the cloth Then the most exciting thing of all Brown Owl handed out the presents which everybody enjoyed Then Santa came and said hello and Merry Christmas and then said he better hurry up to catch his Reindeer team After he left we said goodnight and Brown Owl handed out Candy Canes which everybody enjoyed There will be no Brownies on
