different sleeping bags against ihe cold planning menus cording to the calorie requirement for outdoor activities and the use of natural materials at the site to build that would be warm The students were also trained in strenuous skilled activities such as snow shoeing orienteering and mapreading The group set up camp about miles in from the west gate of Algonquin at Lake Six of the students were given the job of building shelters made of natural materials with snow blocks packed around the outside to act as Insulation This was the fourth outdoor trip the class has made September but it was the first winter camp for the group The course centres on the outdoors and requires a great time commitment About 60 percent of the course Is spent out of class time on weekends and after school hours
