Orienteering rescuing topics at sleepover The Acton Free Press Wednesday March 11 Orienteering cooking and rescue procedures were some of the major activities at the Scouts weekend sleepover at the Scout rathe weekend The boys arrived at the Scout Hall at eight Friday evening and began the weekend by playing outdoor games As entertainment for the evening both the leaders and the boys created their I own shadow shows with thei help of a projector and a sheet The evening ended with a singsong Mugup before bedding down for the night Cookies for Friday night MupUp were donated by Pat Garten After breakfast on Saturday the boys were in structed in map and compass before leaving for an orienteering hike at Blue Springs Scout reserve The boys were driven by the leaders to the sixth line where they divided Into junior and senior groups for the orien teering runs After lunch at the camp and outdoor games the group headed back to the Scout hall In the afternoon the boys divided Into three groups for study In three areas which they all attended on a rotating basis Scouter Mark Rowe instructed a group In cooking while Scouter John Sharpies helped the boys with the skills necessary for rescuing from a height the Scout hall roof and ScouterInTralnlng Rob Peterson took a group for a demonstration on rescuing from a burning building Before supper the boys set out to complete a game known as Scouts pace The boys had to complete a walk through town In 13 minutes They are allowed to run paces and then walk paces After such an active day the boys settled down to crafts and a
