Offer free labor for insulation jobs In further attempt encourage Canadians to conserve energy the federal government is sponsoring the program In this special program those people coming within certain guidelines will have the labor provided free of charge so they can afford to have their homes better in sulated AD they have to pay Is the cost of materials Under another recent anyone living in a built before is eligible for twothirds off cost of materials In reality I some people may find they 1 labor would be senior citizens widows widowers handicapped those with poor health etc All must be reviewed by an advisory board before he work Is okayed however Steve Russell is a project field worker and works out of the Brampton office His area covers Brampton George town Acton Guelph and Mississauga Steve and his crew of six go into homes on request only and check the existing In sula on see if more Is necessary how much more costs etc The Acton Free Press Wednesday June 14 B7 Four Africans train at school MAX NORRIS CHECKS the insulation in a local home Mr Norris is working as part of the program Four men from Kenya and Tanzania ere enrolled In a special training program at the Sheridan College Heavy Equipment School In MUton Their visit Is the result of a college factfinding mission to Africa earlier this year Sheridan was contracted by the Canadian International Development Agency CIDA In February to review and research heavy equipment operations in Dar Salaam Tanzania and Mombasa Kenya The college fivemember team spent five weeks examining if efficiency of utilization of the Canadian equipment provided by CIDA to the East Africa Harbors Commission could be In creased by the user service The study included all aspects of heavy equipment operations equipment repair repair and overhaul facilities logistics support and stevedoring After the visit Sheridan out lined recommendations in a report to which then ar ranged to bring four heavy equipment operators from Africa to Canada for a special upgrading course at the Milton campus Robert and Charles Kamau from Mom and Mr Mussa and Mr Kondo from Dar es Salaam spent two weeks at ad equipment manufacturing school In Chicago before coming to Sheridan During the threeweek training program at MQton they are staying at the dan Credit Valley Campus residence in Mississauga The program has been specially designed to meet their needs in the area of fork lift and auto equipment repair The young men rang Ing in age from 28 to 59 are fluent in both English and Swahill They are already at a skilled level said program George McDonald What were doing is upgrading their skills and introducing them to new repair shop tools which they can make when they return home Part of the training pro gram has Involved visits to several equipment com panles and manufacturers to observe various machine repairing methods Upon completion of the training session they could act as instructors of mechanics at home said McDonald Its their first visit to Can a da and they are adapting well to the program and the environment They are easy going friendly and are mix well with the other stu dents at the campus The four Africans agreed that the only adjustment they had make was getting accustomed to the daylight hours In Africa it gets dark at
