are planning summer activities With only one month left in the school cal Halton Hills Re creation Department is busy preparing for summer activity programs to be run in town Julv and August The department will be running eight summer programs including four day camps a sports school the leadership development program and a new program known as Tot Lot for children to years old Supervisors have been lured to organize the pro grams and hire leaders to run the activities Many of the supervisors are well known around town I worked with the department for a number if summers Smith summer activity has been with the department for six years both as a supervisor and inator summer pro grams A recent graduate of Master University in Physical Education Brendi says she is looking forward to working in this Commun ity she grew up Daycamp supervisor for the second year is Carol Saxon The Acton High school graduate and university student working on a teaching degree has spent four years supervisor of the Music Art and drama MAD program While attending Georgetown High school she was in volved in athletics and drama Newcomers to the supervisor scene are year old Alice Armstrong and year old Lisa Alice will be operating the Leadership Development program this year She was act ively involved in sports and student body leader during her lime at Georgetown High school and is entering her second year in at the University of Waterloo She coaches girls and has attended the Ontario Leadership camp Lisa will supervise both Ihe play mobile the mobile pro gram for rural children and the new Tot Lot pro gram for the deparlment this year She worked as a leader on the play mobile last year A graduate of the Unlvers ity of Western Ontario Lisa has taught English as a Second farm destroying all your stock feed tools material for home renovation bicycles and equipment You cry for three days then you start again Frances and Alan Burns who farm acred south of did just that after suffering such a fire in February It all happened too fast one cold morning after Alan had finished feeding the ewes and lambs and sows Lightning was blamed for the rapidly spreading Inferno that was out of control before anyone could Alan said Fire Chief Carl Meadows was on the scene before they could call had already telephoned Frances and Alan did Start again and now ahead but then the Burns arc pretty que people City slickers seven years ago ports Since 19C7 Alan and Trances and their three children IB Amanda and 11 purchased 12 acres in and built a room house Alan Is in con struclion so he just brought his work home with him The house was rapidly filled with fosltr child as well as the Burns own three They ran a group home with nine youngsters seven of them teens Frances works with Children Aid in Oakvllle We had more kids than animals en comments Alan Farming came to them Frances was presented with ten bantam hens and she popped them in a shed The next morn tog the house to bo renovated and the Bums went into farming with great enthusiasm until the fire all but wiped them out One good thing you can say about it the fire say Alan and Frances found out how good In and helping with the Frances was devasted by the loss of all their pets The cleanup was the worst part The re mains were just too awful to bury so Alan kept the fire burning for a week as he tossed out all day Fourteen goats have Joined the sheep as nucleus for the goat and sheep ranch the farm will eventually become Frances handles the house that dales back lo 1841 in one section and lBWinthe new part As well as the three children the Burns also have two foster daughters It s hard to tell which children are which all are noisy and cheerful The house is a comfy muddle of animals and people satelliting around Alan and Frances who issue instruction with matterof fact humor They joke about their chaotic introduction to farming and the wild things that have happened You haven lived until
