with lunch 1 ve tried the soup of the day four times twice at lunch and rate It excellent The mlnistrone vegetable and Mexican tomato are all hearty fresh tasting and servings are generous to say nothing of delic It has also been quite hot even late in the evening The only disappoint has been the fact one day It t available someonelnlhekltchenforgottowatch and It burned not really a major sin The French Onion is also good value a large serving kept hot Helen and another staffer both report that on different days they found the French Onion soup to have a slightly burnt taste hey conclude it Is supposed to taste that way The onion rings are top notch good and crispy and the serving is good value for the price The escargot which neither Helen or I have tried is served at both lunch and dinner and comments from those we have eaten with have been favorable One female companion d they were the best she had ever had in a restaurant The breaded mushrooms and zucchini with dip have drawn raves from many we know in eluding Helen The salad bar is much the same at lunch and d For the regular visitor the salad bar has one Important feature t changes in small ways We found the vegetable Ingredients to be good and fresh and there a wide range of Items But there also frequently fruit cheese pate even cold sliced ham which makes Tanner salad bar very out of the ordinary much more than just salad The comb on of bread melba toast and sesame seed covered bread sticks also adds to lunch or dinner And speaking of bread the garlic toast part of several the appetizers is tasty As for the main part of lunch the sandwich board and burger are both top notch The sand wich board offers beef corned peameal bacon and ham you can build quite a meal Helen thinks some smaller less expensive sand should also be available The burger is g and mealy cooked to per with excellent toppings Watch out for the chilli topping it is very very hot and spicy This isn t to say it t a tasty addition to the burger but some beverage better be close by We d suggest water always be served wllh dm ner not Just on request for just such instances as the above The fries which come with both the sandwich board and burger receive good and bad marks Sometimes they have been crisp and hot other times cool and soggy The bus er Tanner is for lunch the more Hi the fries will be good The quiche of the day is another Item which has received mixed reviews neither Helen or I can comment personally We haven t heard any one complain though about the size of the more often than not the rap has been on the ingredients This is the customer waitresses state what type of quiche it is on that day Is posted near the entrance also And now to dinner The prime rib board Is an excellent value The prime rib has been superb three times in a row Hot tender Juicy and the portion has been large The meat extras particularly the ribs and have also been quite good Ham when is hot is a nice addition too but on one it was cold it was supposed to be cold but would seem to have been more suited as a salad not part of the hot meal The menu says Tnn swill and they do Scalloped potatoes seem lobe the main potato both with dinners and the prime board They should give upon the scalloped potatoes Helen reports We ve had them several times pasty Once hey even warm On one occasion they had mercifully run out of scalloped potatoes and served pan broiled Instead They were a nice Improvement and should be the potato of the day more often Mashed and baked poiatoes would also be a nice break In the routine Vegetables occasionally not as hot as they could be have never been anything special The rice which comes with a few entrees is quite good Helen also enjoyed her marinated chicken the sauce was tasty and the serving large Ne ther of us has had the steak yet but one of our dinner companions reported her Lady Tan was quile good the second I me around The Tint steak she was brought was cold but a hot fresh steak promptly replaced The only disappointment was her first plate featured nee w hen her dinner was replaced the scalloped pot appeared We haven tr the seafood dish of the day nor the boneless yet so we can com ment We ve heard good things about the weekend brunch but t tried it As for the prices they seem reasonable when compared with other class restaurants In the north area And of course there is a saving eating at Tanner you don pay for gas to go to Georgetown or Milton or Guelph or Brampton etc The atmosphere is very ve to relaxing times It open and a ry with the h 1 and the hanging plants ve the dining and lounge areas a warmth The four gas replaces add to the mellow atmosphere The lounge with ts plush leather furniture Is quite comfortable but we would suggest cushions for the dining room chairs If your is two or three hours the chairs arc little hard on the be hind The staff we have met are professional court eous and really work to make your s t special We haven I tried a lot of the drinks Helen says the Caesar is nice and befuddled dr nks are a good value Wehaveheardrcportsofsomecock tails not being properly made and Irish coming p ping hot but unmapped Overall we have not a weekly mprove- ment at Tanner s and while some more changes are recommended we believe they are on the right track A visit lo Tanner nlj makes or a nice evening out or quiet lunch and s an
