have been overlooked by trustees in their bid to maintain the high quality of education the compliment of staff and most programs that the day has arrived that many Halton homeowners business people and industrialists simply can afford to maintain the school system in the way we ve be come accustomed to The predicted education tax hike is about higher than the total increase for education region and municipality last year And the economy is in much worse shape than last year It is probably too late to reverse this year s board bud get but citizens here and else where must send a message to trustees in this elec year That message must be that until the economy improves drastically we simply can ford the school system as it is now There art many families which are already strapped by high mortgage payments gal lopping food prices etc can afford this tax hike Money families must spend on school taxes won be spent on consumer goods hurting local business and industry fur ther And what about the already beleagured farmers and small businesses which are strug ghng to stay afloat and now must pay higher property taxes either indirectly or through rents Education taxes likely won cost people s jobs or families their homes but it sure t go ing to make it easier for people to hang on Education has long been a motherhood issue After all the spending is for our future through our children But many are wondering about the costs of our future and the results of the ever in creasing spending for educa tion especially the growing number of families which either don t have any
