environment may yet be able to finish school through a special project being studied by officials of the Board of Education Trustees were re cently given their first look at the Centre for Self Learning currently under study by elementary school vice- principal Paul Singleton and high school department head Blaine Adams The concept pre sented to trustees is based on the Independent Education Centre currently operating in Peel Re gion Singleton told trustees that his Inter est In starling such a project in Halton was sparked by a 1970 visit to IndEC in Peel from there with an a school that was meeting the needs of a very special group of students Singleton said Adams explained that the Centre was designed to meet the special needs of six specific groups of students those who require in dividual challenges those in special pro grams of training for sports and music those with medical or other problems adult students those who In after years away from school and those who arc selfsupporting This is not a special education school and it is not an enrichment school he said adding neither was it a free school where students were allowed to design their own pro grams All of the courses offered he said would follow the guidelines of the Ministry of Educa tion Singleton said the program was being designed for Grades 11 to and that the school should hold a maximum of 150
