Wed like to heartily con gratulate all councillors for pledging to always do everything can to make sure theres an office in Acton where people can pay their taxes It may seem like a small matter but to the com munity it is very import ant It seemed appropriate that on the evening council lors bid an affectionate farewell to Mayor Peter they opted to also tell Acton they intend to carry on one of his most im portant promises to the community When Georgetowns Halton Hills Hydro Com missioners moved to try and close the local hydro bill paying office earlier this year tried to assure the community it wouldnt happen by pledg ing that as long as he is mayor there will always be a place in Acton where they can pay their taxes and other bills to local govern ment In fact pushed to have the Town office and hydro billing office com bined so wed have just one stop in town to handle all these types of business He also urged that this office be downtown to help boost local businesses Unfortunately that plan didnt work out he had to settle for joining Acton commissioner Doug Mason and Murt Allison to defeat Ten- nant and Bill Smiths move to close the office portion of hydros Acton operation With a commitment now from council to keep the of fice here open Acton will have to try and get the same commitment for the hydro office from whoever be comes our next mayor Also the community would be wise to make sure no move ment develops again in the direction of closing this much needed service to the community should there be an extended period of time before the new mayor joins the hydro commission GM Letters Our readers write Ys Men thank parade supporters God is our only hope Dear Sir On Sunday November mill tons comments people made about the film- Now this past with the story about the deer hunt It is a poor excuse to try to control the deer population In your article you said anybody woo wants a No Hunting sign could have one free I think a lot of people should get them The farmers think they are los ing a lot of their crops but theyre not losing much at all If the far mers want to protect their field why dont they put up large fences around their crops hope they stop the hunt In the future because It should be stopped to protect the deer after all enough cars bit them at night anyway Smith trlbuted funds Regional Police handled traffic control The groups who entered floats all those people who marched or were on floats and of course Ron Douglas Santa and Bert Robertson Santas driver deserve hearty thanks too I was very disappointed in the wonderful land of Halton Hills It is only in this nevereverland that Town councillors and rich hos pital administrators can bold on to their jobs without having mastered even basic reading skills Now stage of the proposed municipal centre to fruition What municipal centre Mr Poulstrups letter very clearly in dicated This la not a decision to build a building Now of course we all know thats a who think that more weapons will pre vent war and those who will feel safer when there are fewer nuclear devices around the world 1 Write to Pierre Trudeau House of Commons Ottawa in support of his current peace making mission 2 Write to Presidents Reagan and Andropov or to their embas sies in Ottawa urging that they resume sincere and earnest bargaining at the Geneva arms control talks US who wrote the fairy tales the Brothers Grimm asked my spouse facetiously as wo the finish line on the bedroom renovation As I explained before in this column redecorating bouses la pot one of my favorite and there was on the last week of my vacation painting papering and trying to stay sane It was almost a hopeless task Taking the advice of Don and Ann Perry at Centre I painted the ceiling first after the last of the old was craped off and then last week started on the last stage which I thought would take me about two days No wonder I looked grim It was late Sunday afternoon days I
