Clark and Laurie Rockwood post office celebrates 1 30 years The Rockwood post office celebrated Its 130lh anniversary December 1 with the great great great grandson of the first postmaster Robert Pasmore opening the opened the door Thursday morning and Postmaster Margaret Cbx gave a speech on the history of the Rock wood service to a handful of spectators The first postmaster started the Rockwood service In conjunction with a general store Opening out of a modest log cabin on the comer of Main and Harris Streets distributed the mail for years In 1897 handed the reins over to Hugh Black and the post office moved to a new location on Main St Just south of the bridge running through the village Black retained the title 12 years and in 1900 Col John Mutrie became the third Rockwood postmaster By time the mall service had moved again this time to a rented building further north on Main St Mutrie remained post master until 1928 when Prank Day began a year family service to the community Day remained in office until 1945 when bis son George became the fifth postmaster The Days continued running the service until 1972 to May 1972 the present postmaster Margaret Cox took over the service and In June of that year the Pod Office moved into a new building on St Cox has presently four employees under her direction servicing 1 households in the area The post office served coffee and cookies during the morning as part of the 130 years of service celebration Some Canadians walking around their homes or down the street face a near impos sible task s of blindness but twVi to Sandy Todd and the Credtt Valley Kennel and Obedience Club bdp being made available Ms Todd an RR Acton resident is pre sently the show chairman tor the Credit Valley Club which raises money through raffles draws and two annual dog news to buy a seeing eye dog for a blind Canadian The dog shows which Ms Todd Is organ are the largest of their kind in Canada and will be held at the Industry Building at Exhibition place in Toronto on December and 11 dogs compete each day in the show said Ms Todd a confirmed dog lover We hope to double the or person attendance we had last year Through raffles draws and the previous dog shows we ve raised enough money to buy Credit one a seeing eye dog she added and after this show we hope to have enough for Credit two According to Ms Todd each seeing eye dog costs around by the time medical and training expenses are covered Each dog selected at birth Is evaluated to ensure that it Is Intelligent stable and healthy before the training begins After the puppy weaned it is sent to a good home where ft becomes used to people and It a good temperament After a year If the dog still meets the re quirements the real training begins At first the dog learns the basic skills said Ms Todd It learns bow to roll over heel sit and stay and if It does Sandy Todd the show chairman for the Credtt Valley Kennel and Obedience Clan says she and her want to raise money at their sixth annua dog show in Toronto to bay eye dogs for blind Canadians well it graduates to more man ewers After a time the trainers will wear blindfolds and ask the dog to guide him around obstacles If all goes well after a year of training the dog will lead bis blind folded trainer through busy Intersections and heavy pedestrian traffic concluded Ms Todd When the training is complete the dog is matched up with an owner she said and if any problems arise there is always a trainer on band to help Iron them out At the fund raising event this week the recipient of Credit One Heather Anderson win talk on the lot pact a seeing eye dog has had on her As well Ben Wicks a world famous car toonist will demonstrate his skills and auto graph his new book Dogs Ms Todd also added she hopes IMS years show and all future fund raisers will con to help many blind Canadia as well as entertain thousands of dog lovers Noise bvfaw Dismiss charges For the third time noise cen tre against Mike Milicevlc of the Yugoslav were dismissed In Milton court Thursday because of lack of evidence Town Bylaw Enforcement Officer Jake Lusty explained a key witness a rialtoo Regional Police officer failed to appear in court The officer was to testify as to who was In charge or activities at the centre that day A to Halton Hills council from the Yugoslavs stated that Milicevlc be an evening of carols readings and songs As Christmas draws near the local churches are finalizing their seasonal plans The Acton Baptist Church will be having their Christmas Family Night with a supper carol singing skits and a visit from Santa on December Christmas eve will see a special service featuring lessons carols and communion plus special music There will be a regular Sunday morning worship and special Christmas ser vice the next morning A Cantata choir service will be held at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church evening of December 18 Christmas morn will see a regular service and on December 31 there will be the Old Year Service St Joseph Catholic Church will have a Christmas Eve service at 7 which will be mostly for the children Therewillbean other one at 9 pjn for adults In addition service a birthday party for Christ will be held for the youngsters A midnight service Is also planned the regular Sunday service and Christmas service will be held The Evangel Pentecostal Tabernacle will be holding a Christmas program this Sun day evening at which time the Sunday School will be putting on two films On December 18 the congregation will be bringing food and money which will en to two or three needy families Christmas morning there will be an 11 a m service A White Gift service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church this Sunday morning Youngsters will be handing in their banks Tor the Kim Petty Memorial Fund to go to wards the Church foster child A Cantata will be held at that same evening and the offering will go towards the Memorial Fund also There will be a Christmas eve service as well as one the next morning A White Gift service will also be held at the Trinity United Church this Sunday morning at IObjti service the other part a pageant The an Boar head banquet was held Sunday evening Christmas eve there will be a SO pm family service and an 11 com m union service Christmas morning an service is scheduled There will be no Sunday school The Acton Salvation Army is planning a Christmas Candlelight service with carols and a family service However It was not known at press time which night this will be held A candlelight carol service will bo held December 18 at at St Albon The Martyr Anglican Church Christmas eve at 7pm family communion Is planned and a candlelight communion at tl pan A family eucharlst will be held at to a Christmas morning
