GoorgetownActon Wednesday Sept 1964 From theatre sets to room murals Linda Roa worts on a mural at noma Ever thought of having a on your own living room wall or an old wooden table handpainted with designs or even kitchen cupboards with an individual artistic touch laida Roc has been thinking about it for some time and with her background of award winning set design and visual effects or Georgetown Little Theatre and Globe Productions has decided to switch from volunteer work to a commercial enterprise She says the idea first came to her when adjudicator Mir a praised her work in Lion In Winter and said It was at professional level She then added should be paid for your work Linda then started assembling a portfolio showing her work and with the of the le Theatre and Globe managed to round up photographs of her work At first she intended to try to break into professional theatre but later reconsidered deciding it would take her away from home too much Why not see if murals for private homes office buildings hotel lobbies and maybe government buildings could be a successful enterprise she thought and the business She feels a mural using colors com pi ran en ling the room colors can create a much more attractive and dramatic effect than wallpaper and the theme can be in designed for each homeowner She understands people may be hesitant since it is a new Idea but is confident once a few homes display a mural others will be convinced emphasizes the homeowner can sugpesl a theme and she will come up with ideas from which they can choose Eleven years ago Linda Joined Georgetown Little Theatre and began looking after props She then took on the humble duty of painting sets for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs fYom here she graduated to doing the whole set for Letter from a General then a big cloth backdrop to the uninitiated for Arms and the Man Feeling musicals might give her a wider scope for sets and decor Linda joined Globe Productions and looked after the sets and visual effects for Oklahoma Anything Goes and New Girl in Town The budding business woman has won three Awards which are the amateur theatre a equivalent of Oscar for set decor In Oklahoma visual effects in Lion Winter and excellence for set design and in Murder Mistaken She also was recognized by a Town of Hills Award for contribution to the arts Plans house Nelson Shaw plans
