Harmless as Writer Said R Georgetown Dear Sir I see that Mr Handy who is obviously a snowmobile opera tor took it upon himself to answer for all snow machine operators I am impressed with the fact that he showed enough interest to comment upon my firit tetter but not with his re or my statements Let me acquaint Mr Handy i with a few facts in turn i 1 I agree that evergreens I that were planted last summer would be very small but the snow is not waist deep as Mr Handy slates from the obvious comfort of his armchair This area has been swept clear of snow to a depth of a couple or three inches The rows of trees are clearly visible There is a fence so these trespassers cross where it is drifted to posted signs do you have your town lot posted and fenced If it is not can I come and run around your yard and trample your flower beds and bushes even under all that snow I have always been taught since I was able to walk that any time I was property that was not mine I should ask permission This Is only common courtesy and good manners that so many people seem to lack these days espec ially when they arc outside town limits and seem to feel that all the land is open and barren and free lam glad to see that yon agree that they should not op erate 3 and abreast on a pub lic road but please get your facts straight The road it not unmarked Maybe they were not exceeding the speed limit but they were still being in a highly irresponsible manner 3 As for the boozers cars have wheels and their drivers arc also irresponsible where severe icing exists as it did that particular weekend Undoubtedly the driver go ing through the Plain felt safe otherwise he wouldn done it but he Is extremely hard in a crowded plaza lot with any equip ment now available Of course a mentally incompetent would feel safe walking down tho mid die of the freeway at rush hour I have no doubt that a snow would stop and ask you if you were In trouble This is only the polite and eons thins to do I do not all only the one that so flagrantly break all rules of privacy and courtesy If are such a boon to the populace why have they been banned from so many towns and cities If people who own and operate these machines had used them in a sane safe and sensible fa on these towns would prob ably still allow them around In Bay snowmobiles are binned completely within town im and if you arc operating on the lake you can be prosec i if you come within feet of any private residence or summer resort These restrict ions would not have been put into force had the operators not abused the privilege of iou within town limits It is a well known Tact that there was salesman of snow machines In who included a pair of wire cutters as standard equipment snowmobiles he sold This is an open for people to trespass This man as well the operators who used these wire cutters to gain unlawful entry to fields should be prosec luted Up lo January of this year I people were killed in Canada this winter season In a study by doctors of patients SO had let injuries lull arm inj 14 head Injuries Out or people disabilities 4 permanent ly disabled partially disabled permanently scarred and one blinded In all these cases tho doctors found that the driver was the weak link and that these accidents should hive happened I could on and on AH these figures can be substantiated by the Hospital for Sick Chldrcn In Toronto and were in the Tor otto Clone Mill along with the mines of the doctors con corned I rest my cose Thank Peter in Commission on PostSecondary Education in Ontario PUBLIC HEARING The
