Minor Teams Set To Go Georgetown Ball Teams on Every Rung of HCBA Ladder OUTDOORS George Hurt Tell Me About And Show Me Those Good Trout be more earns play ing in the minor section of the County Baseball Assoc iation this summer than there have been In years League officials left the jun ior membership up in the air when they granted extension on the league entry deadline to Burlington and Milton Already In the junior loop early spring speckled that old story about lightning trout are scattered in eddies rapids undercut banka and un der log Jams some good baits are garden earth worms white grubs shiner tails streamer flies minnow type and drab coloured bucktalls small lures and flatfish are also good Much snow Is in the bush yet and some of the lakes are still locked in ice that is to the north and east of us This means that our local Ashing spots and others In the South ern Georgian Bay area will have more than their share of anglers RAINBOW TROUT Unlike the specks rainbow trout spawn in the spring but they can still be caught on a variety of lures Fresh roe and dew worms ore probably the most popular especially when they are pres ented to the trout with a drift ing method its believed they strike because they think the bait especially the worms and lures are going to Interfere with their spawning Early morning fishing ways paid off for me especially between dawn and am Most always there was a heavy frost and ice was gathering in the fly rod and our bands and feet suf fered from the cold but big rainbow trout that were high and dry on the grassybank more than made up for hardships Big rainbow trout have a ha bit of moving swiftly when hooked they break lines that are old with use and smash leaders especially In riv ers that are not big enough to lee that owing to a and a No or offset forged hook is the order of the day I myself as other anglers did find this out the hard way There is an old saying No flab ever broke a line or leader the fish just out smarted us did the damage THEY MOVE AT DUSK Dont leavo that favourite rainbow haven just because the sun has gone below the horizon we have seen them moving up as we stood knee deep In the river and dont believe and thunder spooking the trout of course its safer for one to be out of the water when the storm is at its worst but keep that bag of roe and gob of worms in the river The same applies speckled trout but thats story by Itself TACKLE TIPS Most experienced anglers know but others dont think to check their lines rod guides es pecially the one on the tip which if not hardened metal will be cut by the nylon line The reel also needs some In spection especially the spinning type open face to make sure the bail spring and line roller are okay landing net also needs some Inspection some nets have a habit of rotting during the long winter months Re placement nets can be purchas ed but sometimes Its cheaper to buy a new one A big one Is required for the rainbow trout SAFETY PINS ELASTICS AND CHEESECLOTH Safety pins have a good many uses such as holding up waders and holding torn clothing togeth er to name two Elastics for lure boxes cloth rod cases etc cheesecloth for minnow buc kets when one wants to keep minnows alive over night best to tie some cheesecloth ar ound the Inner part of the buc ket before placing It In a lake or river The cloth will keep the leeches from going In through the boles and eating all minnows up A patching kit for armpit wader repair Is always a must And dont target a mans best friend a warm wool shirt and a light a pair of water proof gloves at this time of year ore always In order HOW ABOUT PICTURES And to you lucky anglers how about some pictures of some of these good catches Give me a call or drop them Into the Her ald office A long winter has just pass ed and people want to see some trout So until next week Enjoy the outdoors Tight lines and safe Journey are teams from Ookville Geor getown and Burlington and a juvenile Haines Surprising That Public Gets Tennis Court One Day A Week Dr Dear Sir The formation or a tennis club making provision for com petition in the sport through tournaments should be support ed The officers of the tennis club have explained that the tennis courts were built with money raised by the Lions and that they were built In Joseph Gib bons Park and given to the town This park Is Georgetowns park and it is therefore public Surprising then that the tennis club should only allow the pub lic to use its own court on one day of the week that being Friday and not even during the weekend Has the GHC de- el gated its responsibility for the courts to the tennis club The Inequalities developing through this situation can be solved 1 GRC set down fees per hour of play to offset opera ting and maintenance costs of courts Other facilities are run on this basis eg swimming pool and arena GRC provide turrfeBe attendant to collect fees and moke reservations This would have the added advantage of providing a summer job In this manner equality will exist the maintenance end op erating costs of the courts will Dore First Of Oaks To Sign Georgetown right bander nle became the
