Halton East Candidates Want Georgetown To Tip Scales Hie Halton East provincial campaign moved Into the home stretch thlt week as the ridings four candidates make their final attempts to persuade the ridings potential voters Todays vote marks the second time the riding of Halton East has sent a provincial member to Queens Park Liberal Bob Blake New Democrat Ken Gelok and In dependent Robert ore trying to unseat Incumbent Jim Snow Easts first MPP Before Halton East and Halton West had been one complete riding represented by Progressive Conservative George Kerr But In the 1KT contest Kerr swept West with more than a majority while Jim Snow squeaked through by a narrow margin over Liberal Robin Skuce New Democrat William Gillies finished third over 3000 votes behind the leaders but with about per cent of the popular vote This election the eligible voters represent an 11000 In crease over 1967 Thirty nine thousand people were eligible that year and voted YOUNGER VOTERS A major change University of Toronto students stayed with local families from Friday till Monday They came from 16 different countries including Western I Europe South America Africa Asia Iran the Philippines and New Zealand Most are graduate students many holding positions with their home governments The nost families entertained them in various ways but almost all made a point of walking or driving among the colourful fall trees The visit was sponsored by the local Y M C A with the idea of giving foreign students a chance to live in a Canadian home and see the Canadian type of family life In addition it
