the board was op posed by Ian Barrett a teacher who lives In Georgetown but teaches in during the last municipal election held in December ERNIE BODNAR Mr a major criticism to having teachers sit on the board Is that they are members of the which Is in volved with the negotiations of salaries for teachers He says they are members of the same club and are Indirectly negotiating their own salaries as John Bolch Jim Singleton Emmerson Lavender Gilroore and John Graham said Mr Bodnar who also elaborated on the fact that there are an ample number of programs and for teacher Input to the board He also commented on principals taking on more of a management position dealing with administration of a supervisory capacity IAN BARRETT Ian Barrett views the with the same respect as an engineer would the engineering society or doctors the Ontario Medical Association They are not employed by these bodies but can sain support from them negotiators classification funds etc if help is requested he pointed out The democratic principle according to Mr Barrett gives each school board its own autonomy It Is true that a teacher on a board may be able to negotiate salaries and working conditions or teachers in that county and this could be used as leverage by another board but school board members are community representatives They being engineers would also gain the same type of rapport county
