HERALD WEDNESDAY DECEMBERS 1973 Wanted Parole Man Goes To Jail Wilfred Fisher told a story of lob- jumping and heartbreak he found In our years following his release from Kingston Penitentiary The provincial court in Milton listened attentively to his tale before hearing he was on his way back to the pen Sentenced to a 10year term for possession of counterfeit money he will likely serve the full sentence As well as that sentence an additional 14 years worth of snorter sentences were im posed on him for other charges a of them connected to fraud false pretences and theft fisher pleaded guilty to all CRIMINAL LIFE In passing sentence Judge William Sharpe said he could reach no other conclusion than that Fisher was persisting In leading a criminal life There not much hope of rehabilitation he said I have a duty to protect the public Fisher took the stand to explain his history In a subdued sad voice His criminal past that Involves 11 convictions for a variety of offences took him lo Fort Leavenworth Prison In the United States With 14 other prisoners he staged a breakout that led to an additional five year term in that prison Strangely his association with crime began in Acton where In he was involved in a dispute over a bill at a local restaurant He was charged with theft of the dollar which resulted he said because he had been short changed Sentence was suspended In the Milton Court when he agreed to return to a job at a wartime factory in Toronto In hewas sentenced to an eight year term at Fort Leavenworth that eventually led to his unsuccessful escape attempt He said the original sentences resulted from a chain of events with American police He was stopped on the highway he said while driving a car he had to purchase while In Florida According to S law at the lime he explained it was Illegal to take a vehicle across state lines before it was com pletcly paid for He said the car was seized and with it he lost the down payments and further payments already made on the vehicle As well he was given a three year suspended sentence out of consideration he said for the fact that he was a Canadian unfamiliar with the law t CAR Later however in anger at the seizure he stole a second car to make up for the lost vehicle He was arrested returned to Florida and con and sentenced to three years imprisonment for the theft As well the three year suspended sentence was in yoked for a total term of six years to be served at Fort Leavenworth Much later still by that time entrenched into a criminal record had come to total 117 con vidians Fisher appealed for supervision at the completion of a prison term at Kingston With a month left in His prison sentence he applied for parole I fell I would have been better off under supervision he He wanted parole alter me Kingston prison term he said because I would have at least been watched J would have had someone go to The list of charges against Fisher were all compiled In
