and Mrs Anne Kachmar organized the special pioneer day celebration so that the classes could share the ex peri nee with the grade two pupils The children dressed up In long dresses bonnets shawls straw hats and braces reminiscent of the olden days They staged an Imaginary pioneer community In the classroom setting up props In various sections of the room Stephen and Mike played the village George was the cobbler and Kenny was the schoolmaster Several little girls set up an old fashioned kitchen with a replica of an old wood stove a candle a washboard wooden bowls and spoons an old sad iron and an old rocking cradle to demonstrate how great grandmother used to live The girls baked a real Johnny cake from a hundred year old recipe they got from Pioneer village They served It with hot maple syrup to the visiting grade twos Mark Bray constructed a model of the Em an old general store Another group of girls showed how pioneer women used to gather together to do their knitting and
