Kim Moody put the finishing touches to the Nativity scene on the front door Mrs McLean wan hostess for the December meeting of the I As was the custom the meeting was called for 1 and a delicious dessert was served with tea and coffee Mrs Jesse McEnery assisted Mrs McLean with the luncheon Immediately after lunch the meeting was called to order Mrs first vice- president took the chair and opened with an appropriate reading for the Christmas season Members answered the roll call by quoting four lines of a Christmas verse they had composed During the business period the modem was carried to donate money to two projects namely the Lee Home and Save the Sight fund Mrs McLean gave a report on the workshop for nutrition she recently attended along with other members and Interested friends Mrs Jesse McEnery and Mrs Given each gave a report on the area convention held last month In Kitchener Mrs Leo was convenor far the program and called on Mrs Given for current events Each member then In turn con tributed something for the program Humorous readings tames songs and a on physical culture resulted In a variety form of entertainment The exchange of gifts made a happy ending for the program Before the meeting ad It was a pleasant duty welcome a new member and have her name added to the roll Toronto on Saturday The Community centre was the scene of much activity on Sunday afternoon when the hall board put on a variety concert The talent was all local Dan OConnor was chairman and welcomed all Pint on the program was a short play signifying the meaning of Christmas It was performed very well by all the characters liKidlng little mice kit tens and the Carolers The Baliinafad Brownies appeared on the stage and gave several demonstrations and sang familiar songs Mrs Jessup la the leader of this group of young girls and is doing a fine job The Junior choir from the local church under the direction of Mrs R Kerr gave several numbers Helper was given by two girls from the Brownie pack It caused much laughter when Bessie the Cow substituting for one of Santas reindeers came walking In from the back of the hall and walked up on stage where she danced a Jig Mr and Mr John were the couple who made Bessie the cow able to dance and run around Mrs Ernest provided music for the song and dance The highlight of the afternoon was when old Santa appeared He had a toy and an orange for each child present Oranges provided by the hall board and toys through the kindness and generosity of a local citizen Mr Eric Havocs To end the afternoons en joyment everyone was Invited downstairs for lunch and were treated to hot dogs cold drinks or coffee The hall board are to be congratulated for planning this parry but if everyone hadnt co operated It would not have been so successful Universal Bible Sunday was observed at church on Sunday Rev Stiles had a story for the children and leaflets were given each one before they went downstairs for Sunday School classes The congregation had been asked to bring any special Bible to church for this Sunday and several had Interesting stories to tell The adults will have a chance to celebrate Christmas as a dance baa been regional The traffic safety efforts of the OakvlIIe Burlington Milton and Hills area formerly Georgetown and Acton have been merged Into a regionwide safety organization known as the Region Safety Council We felt that policing was going to become regional responsibility so should traffic safety explained Mrs R P Johnstone first Chairman of the new council who has a distinguished record In com activities as longtime member and former chairman of the Burlington Safety Council But were not trying to take over or disregard any established group Mrs Johnstone hastened to add There is a strong local safety council In Burlington and an Safety Committee as well as a Halton Farm Safety Council in regie While traffic safety la logically a regional respon sibility falling under the new regional
