Incumbent of St AlbansChnrch Glen Williams with SI Pauls Church Norval For now the winter is past the rains are over and gone ihe flowers appear In the countryside the time is coming when birds will sing and the turtledoves cooing will be heard In our land when the green figs will ripen on the fig trees the vines give forth their fragrance Thousands of years before Lord Tennyson wrote of a young mans fancy turning to thoughts of love in time the Bible had described the same thing By Ihe time this piece Is printed we may be in the midst of a last blustery storm before winter capitulates But already we have felt the worming sun and seen the rain washing away winters grime and breathed the fresh air and thought about the crocuses and the new leaves that will soon be budding out its a happy circumstance that the church celebrates the new life that God gives us in Christ at a lime when his world Itself seems to be reviving A Canadian author recently told of being bewildered by some young people to whom he had explained that our word Lent means the time of year when the days lengthen or lenthen The kids hadnt noticed the days getting longer When It gets dark you flick a switch and the lights come on so weve dulled the difference between night day We eat frozen foods the year round and so we erase some of the difference between winter and summer For some of us we might just as well live In a capsule in the dark ocean depths where there Is no night or day no winter or summer Yet we of should appreciate the seasons Fifty years ago A Jackson wondered why our artists should go to Europe to paint smelly canals when they had such a wealth In the Canadian landscape In summer It was green raw greens all in a tangle in autumn it flamed with red and gold in winter It was wrapped In a blanket of dazzling snow in the springtime it roared with run waters and surged with new llfo He appreciated that seasons were part of the mystery of the creation The blocks of Ice on the boll diamond in Glen Williams are a reminder that there are forces in nature that man cant control And though those forces may seem limes in general they point to a gracious will above ua that promises the support of life That is the meaning of Gods promise to Noah after the flood While the earth lasts seedtime and harvest cold and heat summer and winter day and night shall never cease Genesis Brampton and District Labour Council whose resident is Georgetowns llliam voted recently to send Prime Minister a telegram con demning his governments policies and laying the blame for massive and Inflation on those policies The local union leaders were incensed over finance minister John Turners concern over wage settlements which they Interpret as blaming inflation on wage increases Mr opinions on the finance minister Mr Turner has become the leading champion of the business Interests We are always in the position of trying to catch up with prices never of pushing them up The executive council reacted sharply to the speech from the throne at Queens Park two weeks ago The council voted to send another telegram commenting on the throne speech which the council felt contained no policies to meet the battle against In flatlon and unemployment The council met with Ross Milne a local MP last week to inflation and unemployment A followup meeting with all three area MPs is being organized new
