THE HERALD April ins Junior B team for Georgetown It Is now almost a certainty that group headed by Doug Coulbeck Allan Georgetown will have a Junior B hockey Walker Tom James and Bill Moore an At a meeting held that they had made a formal the Georgetown arena on Monday night a plication to the Ontario Hockey Association Few for Raiders Last Wednesday a public meeting was held at Cedarvale Community Centre aimed at clearing the air regarding the future plans of Georgetown a Intermediate A hockey team the Raiders In the aftermath of the suspension of the team from postseason activity by the OHA and the subsequent suspension of a member of the teams executive pending a request for a hearing by the It was felt in some quarters that the on of the future of the team should be left up to the people of Georgetown Thus the meeting on Wednesday It was made clear by Dave Kentner a member of last year executive and chairman of the meeting that this was indeed the crux of the matter Because of the actions of the OHA this year and in years east In regards to Georgetown Mr Kentner explained that at present he wished to nave no more dealings with them and was resigning as a member of the Raiders hockey team The intimation thatamajoiity of last year s executive felt the same way and similarly would not be back Georgetown therefore has en Intermediate A hockey franchise but no executive to run tbe club It had been hoped that the response to Wednesday meeting would have been such that a new executive would bo formed This was not tbe case as only people showed up As a result of the poor turnout felt that a second better publicized meeting should be called before a final decision to either disband or continue with opinion or raise a question Intermediate hockey is ren- to dered This meeting will be This was confirmed by OKA officials In Toronto The group had been discussing the possibility of an OKA Junior B club In for a little over a year It was lust in the last three months however that serious preparations took place Doug Coulbeck stated that they had talked to George Ferguson convenor of the Centra Ontario Junior B league the league which Georgetown could Join and that from the assurances they received from Ferguson their application has been cepted In principle All that remains is for the OHA to formally accept the application It is expected that this will be done at the meeting scheduled for May The gentleman Involved with the for of the team had worked together previously on the executive of Georgetown Junior team which ceased operation They wished to make clear that they are completely seperate from he Intermediate A situation Mr Coulbeck commented that the group was not formed to take over the Intermediate A club and further their actions in applying for a Junior club should not be construed as an at tempt to undermine In any way the operation of an Intermediate A hockey team in Georgetown Junior B teams from Burlington Milton Street sville Brampton Dixie ThornhUl and Royal York Etobicoke There Is a possibility that Burlington may go elsewhere but this would have no real bearing on the actual running of the league The operating of a Junior team would cost roughly between and a yeai art for this reason Mr Coulbeck speaking on behalf of the group expressed the hope that the people of Georgetown would rally behind the team Anyone interested in helping the team out or in serving with the team In any capacity Is advised local either Doug Coulbeck Allan Walker or Tom James Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated According to Mr Coulbeck the fledgling team has already set certain goals for itself and will attempt to adhere to them as closely as possible The club will be built on local talent run by local people and funded by local money It was also stated that In versatlonswithlocalminorhockey people an understanding was reached whereby the Junior B team would work In complete Georgetown All that Is really needed is local support paper would like to be one of the first to offer the team the beat of luck In their endeavour held May ate in the upstairs kitchen at Cedarvale Community Centre The discussion at Wed s meeting was for the most part fairly informal and several Interesting points were brought out In the open The Raiders were described as close to solvent and it was explained that If people are found to form a new executive they could really do what they want with the team There Is no obligation to remain in the OHA and a new executive could If they so decided drop out and attempt to Join another Intermediate A league Similarly a new executive could decide to change the Raiders from an Intermediate team to a Junior B team and such a change was suggested by several people at he meeting At May an attempt will be made to form new executive but Hub ob viously la not tbe heart of the matter future of In termed ate hockey In Georgetown Is at stake and it was made plain hat should a decision be made to drop out of the OHA under new rules initiated this year Georgetown could find It very difficult to return to the fold If they reapplied at some future date Mr urged that all those wishing to be heard on this subject be in attendance at the May 28 meeting All positions on the team executive are available and anyone wishing to state an CHRIS HALL pool
