contact No dam is needed To the or the Herald The recent controversy over the Credit Valley ConservaUon Authority plans for the Silver Creek area has prompted us to make our views known lest anyone assume Messrs Hill and represent interest of nil Hills residents We heartily endorse the authority decision to abandon the proposal for a major dam In the Silver Creek valley and commend them for their foresight and awareness What conceivable benefit could such a project hove to outweigh the destruction of a beautiful alley A dam at this location would do little to alleviate flood problems In Glen Williams or elsewhere since its primary purpose would be low flow According to the Con servo Hon Report this increase In summer flow Is necessary to lessen downstream pollution problems but even In this regard the project is dubious because of limited upstream drainage area Low flow augmentation is achieved by summer drawdown of the reservoir leaving an ugly bathtub ring In the prime recreational season In any case modern ad vances In pollution control and a growing awareness of the drawbacks of large scale flooding Indicate thnt this technique is largely outdated It would appear that the only real purpose of a Silver Creek dam would be to fulfill some narrow minded engineer s and to gratify glory seeking pol who But look at the drawbacks The of a unique biological resource which is recognized by local naturalists and provincial authorities alike as one of the rhtet In teresting natural areas I A this part of the province A site or educational and recreational potential which is fully worthy of protection for future generations Given enough money and enough foolishness man can create ponds by the downs wherever he wills but what he cannot recreate is another Iver Creek valley Perhaps the surprise ex pressed by HUH representatives at the authority decision stems from their demonstrated lack of Interest in the routine workings of the Credit Valley Conservation Authority During 1974 for example Mr Sykes attended only of 10 full authority meeting for which he was scheduled and a brass Mr Hill I bit record Is only appoint themselves for 1975 judge all Renaissance sexobsessed To the Editor of the Herald In the press recently Renaissance leader Ken Campbell asked a question I wonder where all the people went after only people showed up at the much heralded Renaissance anniversary Surely he is begging the question The Renaissance started with a big bang People were and are concerned about education but the Renaissance committee became ob sessed When a sex education film that was being shown to students was shown to parents objections were negligible Parents for the most part found little to get excited about proving moat modern thinking parents want their children to have education In school and did not want to be associated with a group that was to curtailing sex education In the same vein Mr Campbell announces he Is suing a certain group and individuals responsible for education He points out he Is sending his children to a private school My only comment Is that spreading Ihe gospel must be a very lucrative business If one can afford year for private tuition for his cation I know that If I was dedicated to a cause be it religious or whatever I would not spend any stipend derived from that cause or any private monies I had furthering my own personal would use It to help let ones particularly of the cloth Rev Campbell will hot be collecting from the Halton Board of Education or the ministry of education should his court
