THE HERALD Wednesday May Talking FOR BOOKS films and talking books can be placed immediately upon receipt by using the new teletype unit installed weeks ago in the Georgetown library The unit connects all libraries in the South Central Region The Hills Public Library Is more than Just books It Is records films and now talking books for hose that cannot for various reasons take advantage of a regular printed book These new talking books are available through the South Centra Regional Library System from a catalogue that can be con sulted in the Acton Georgetown and Libraries Included In the talking books are classic fiction current best sellers and old time radio shows on prerecorded audio cassettes Tapes ordered from the central depository In OakvlUe are usually In the borrowers hands within a couple of days In order to speed the In formational flow when or dering books films and talking books teletype machine has been installed at the Georgetown library which directly connects the Hills library to the South Central Regional Library System beadoffice In Hamilton plus all libraries under their Jurisdiction Books being ordered or searched for are typed on the keyboard and the message simultaneously appears on all teletype printers within the system Anyone having knowledge of the book or film simply responds to the request and the courier for the SCRXS takes over in getting the book to it next required destination This way we can check up on a book or order a film and have It here as soon as possible explained Betsy librarian of the Georgetown and iJmehouae libraries Talking books are new to the Georgetown library and as yet there are Just two playback units available for those not owning their own cassette players It would be a worthwhile project for serving lunch Rev Ross dimming of Port Elgin a former minister waa guest speaker at Home United Church anniversary on Sun day May The church was filled to capacity with chairs In the aisles for the special occasion Special music was provided by the choir and guest soloist Tom Hardy In celebration of he year of the United Church of Canada displays were put up In the basement planned by Mrs Boucher Coffee was served following service while the In teresting displays and pictures were enjoyed made in former years embroidered with names of the congregation on the blocks were very Interesting as were pictures of the ministers of the church and various special events such as Harvest Home services Record books of the church were also on display Mr and Mrs Lawrence May re aimed home around the end of April after spending the winter at their home In Florida They arrived Just In time for the nice spring weather here The spring rain on the weekend has sud denly turned the grass green the leaves on the trees to come out and the daffodils are blooming Limehouse WI ready for fall fair AS PART of Its International Womens Year project the Georgetown University Womens Club has set up a book display In the Georgetown Public Library Examining the books which all pertain to women In some aspect are Julie Munnock end Maria Jen nings President Mrs G Booth presided for the Womens Institute meeting In Memorial Hall May l The meeting opened with the Ode and Collect were In attendance A donation of per member was suggested for entertaining visitors from BC An in vitation to attend the music festival In Acton was also received Mrs Hannah con sented to fill the office of second vicepresident The quilt for completion was on display and Mrs Booth described the pattern Con years and sells a few articles at their annual show however much of her work Is for her own pleasure Following a German tradition she makes beautiful decorated eggs She also makes cards and wax candles decorated with pressed flowers- polishes driftwood and branches mac rame belts hangings and lamp shades gold wire necklaces dried flower plaques and plastic mobiles Several WI members or dered little daughter Andrea Michelle at Georgetown District Memorial Hospital on April Limehouse and Sllverwood branches combined to present a program gifts and lunch for the April birthday party at Centennial Manor on April Mrs George Ironside was chairman Mr and Mrs Rob spending the summer months In Ottawa where Rob will work in the research branch of the Department of Agriculture We regret that Mr JR Benton Is confined to hospital In Georgetown for treatment but hope his health may Im prove soon We ore sorry to hear that Mr Michael Payne Is hospitalized being built up for later surgery We hope tor a good recovery Mrs Peter Muxworthy of London has been visiting her parents Mr and Mrs J at the Brian Forsters here Mr and Mrs Richard Curtis and son of Ottawa and Mrs John Massey of London England were visitors with the Ron Thomsons on he Fourth Line District commissioner Barbara Newman visited the Guides at a recent meeting at the school Six girls were enrolled Sherrle together to welcome la new members receiving their of Jewels Degree After dinner Woodward president of Zeta Alpha Chapter was presented with the Girl of the Year award one of the highest honours a chapter can bestow upon a member to thank them for their dedicated service throughout the year Congratulations Ruth I The chairman of the co ordinating council Teetzel was also the happy recipient of gifts of ap preciation from the members for her efforts during this last year To help celebrate the evening the girls had invited heir husbands to Join them for an evening of dancing to the music of Joe St Dennis and bis oneman band The first Founders Day Celebration held by all Georgetown chapters was enjoyed by everyone Marilyn daughter Sixyearold Stacey of Mr and Mrs Sam daughter of Mr and Mrs John won he gold medal with her Hutton of won two recitation She hlrd In third in her piano solo Her V0B M ST ft citation third In his piano solo class Mrs Joyce and Mrs Kathryn and Carol Elizabeth Scholten won the Meyer won gold medal gold medal with heir vocal Congratulations to local with their vocal duet and duet Cindy Rodgers Cathy Magna Marlon Case Sum mers and Lorraine Brown First year service pins were given Julie Janice and Debbie Magno Second year service pins were for Karen and Brenda MaJuery Three mothers attended Group Committee and the local association held a very successful April 19 Over was taken in and will be divided between the two groups A draw for four door prizes was held Betty won a leather purse made by Abela Steve Thompson Two pillows were won by Kelvin Eastwood a set
