Page It THE HERALD Wednesday MijM 1IB Ontario Outdoors Fish paradise miles away Dokii Island Fox Island Sand Bay Bustard Island Grouptheee an the names that can conjure up flatting success for you this year and for some time to come These are all In the Key Harbour area and can only be reached by water This could be by way of the Key River or up the shore line of Georgian Bay around the 30 islands at the top of that fish basin The area teeems with fish and some records have been taken from its waters and when you consider that it Is Lightly fished it Is even more I first went to the Key River with Ross Irwin of Georgetown and have been going ever since the previous occasion Twenty pound Pike are not common and Muskies grow mean and sassy Walleye come in such large site and huge that a person And If you think that Is a fish story 1 will try to get a photograph I have seen or should I say several photographs In which people are doing Just that hauling their Walleye in Large Perch are common along with he sweet LakaTroutandmaybethebestofall Small Mouth Bass On a trip to that area over the Victoria Day weekend along with Max Joe and John of Georgetown we caught and released several Bass and we were not even fishing for them Pike we also released as we were after the Walleye We went in by canoe for a distance of about 13 miles and camped in the area of Sand Bay but all the Walleye were taken in the vicinity of Fox Island which Is about two miles through the islands from where we were Alargeboatwasnecessaryforliiattrlpas It was through open water and the bay can be quite rough through there Reports of IS to fish per man and all of them averaged 10 pounds with several in the 15 pound range And they are available ail year for the man who wants to go after them As the season progresses the fish come further Into the mouth of the Key River as they run up it to spawn and then slay In the bays til freezeup forces them bock to deeper water The Key River is ZOO miles from Hills and the harbour is seven miles down the river with Fox Island laying about five miles from the mouth of he river Key Harbour was once a well known lake port carrying the ore from Sudbury but the tracks have since been torn up and the huge dynamo along with the massive docks burned up in a fire in 1S3S The remains of the docks and dynamo can still be seen and the Key Harbour Lodge is well able to accommodate you you wish to spend a family vacation there The lodge is still operating even llwughittspresentlyforsale someone I might add The Credit Valley Conservation
