the office Nor would it be the type of Job where pressures are alight and worries are few When Frank was elected last year as Halton fledgling Member of Parliament he knew his job was to serve constituent to the best of his ability often making difficult decisions which required hours upon hours of careful evaluation and concentration He knew its the kind of career where you have lo keep your chin up all times and keep your shoulder to the grind stone every minute of the day Hard working best describes my first year In office began Dr Philbrook in a recent personal Interview with the Herald I feel good about my first year In office and Ive enjoyed every bit of it There la a lot of hard work Involved and a lot of adjusting to However with Dr Philbrook staying In Ottawa five days of the week his family has had to make many major adjustments as well I very fortunate to have such an understanding and participating family My wife- the three girls have participated as much a they can As a family we have made an ideal adjustment wife Midge together attend many of the social functions In and Ottawa ranging from the GovernorGeneral BoTJ to picnics to official openings When asked to describe a typical day In took a deep bream and began My day begins with catching up on the overnight work and the early morning news which leads Into answering phone calls reading and replying to the numerous letters I receive greeting visitors keeping In touch with my riding office reviewing applications for federal grants and jobs and so forth Whenever possible I work out In the gym for an hour Afternoon duties on Parliament Hill range from house duty to speeches to caucus to various committee meetings and other meetings Evening sessions of Parliament usually lost until or 10 30 However work is still not completed for Dr must then return to office to complete the day a work Dr Philbrook pointed out that not all so hectic but the greater majority of his days In Ottawa are spent just as described With federal riding of ex tending from Lake Ontario in the south to the northern boundaries of Erin Township In Wellington County including the municipalities of Milton Hills and Erin and Erin Township in all about square miles Incorporating 3SO00 household and voters it is no wonder that Philbrook Is constantly on the go I like working bard It becomes a way of life Those five days In Ottawa suddenly seem like all one day It a all very Interesting and It a high pressured enough that before you know It the week bos gone by said Philbrook July marked the completion of Dr first year as s representative in Ottawa and he regards his first years as very satisfying I ve enjoyed my first year immensely lvelcameda great deal which will be helpful in my second year in office When asked of highlights of his first year Dr proudly told of his many first year achievements I asked half a dozen questions which were spoken about In the House of Commons But what I think was most exciting was when within six months of my election I was chosen to Canadian delegation which was to go to Sri Lanka formerly Ceylon fourth Com monwealth Medical Conference On June Philbrook delivered his first major address to the Canadian House of Commons After making his speech on the budget Dr was delighted to receive a hand shake and some words of congratulations from his colleague John Turner The following day Dr Philbrook again much to his delight received a note from Mr Turner stating Just a brief note to for your fine speech during the budget debate last Thursday Ithinkyoudidan excellent Job of hitting the main points went on to explain his great admiration for Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau I think we are lucky to have such on outstanding Prime Minister Trudeau is completely accepted as the leader of our party He a brilliant man a democratic leader very respected and very well liked He Interested in all opinions and Is tough when he needs to be tough Dr Philbrook continued to describe the Prime Minister by saying He tries to get as much information as passible before he makes a decision Then when he makes a decision he makes it fir as difficult as it sounds takes a personal Interest in everyone of us Everyone enjoys his tremendous of humour and he always finishes off with something humourous Whatastonisbesraeis the great amount of energy the man has slated that law and order will be the major Issue to come up before parliament In year two will have to make the system of law and order more ef ficient and will have to try to reduce the amount of crime and violence to ensure public protection expects his second year In parliament will be Just about the same 1 11 be working Just as hard only with much more experience If I get the chance to take on more for school set out by the Halton Board of Education Because of the present terms for the closed School the town could not see fHtogoalougwlththeterras But he town Is reluctant as the Norval Community Association la to sit back and let the residents once again suffer At Monday nights general ad ministration committee meeting Mayor Tom made a recommendation which will now be sent to council that a committee be for mod to deal with the present lease The committee will consist of Councillors Dick and Lea Duby and members of the Norval Community Association who will make a request to the Halton Board of Eduction to hold a meeting and renegotiate the terms of the lease At the meeting Councillor Duby stated present feelings toward the school board 1 m not going to say that I am disappointed I m disgusted with the school Glen park for sale Glen Williams may lose their ball park After ten years of leasing the property for per year to the three ball associations con nected with the Glen park Clifford Davidson present owner of the acres has decided to put the property up for sale Ross Irwin sales representative from Johnson and Carney explained to ho general administration committee Monday that Mr Davidson wishes to sell all of the property and not just the seven some acres which house the ball diamonds We are expecting an option to be taken out on the property that a why I came to the town I think the town should purchase the entire property not just because I want to sell it but because I think the town will need of the property for future use explained Mr Irwin Nell Beat representing the three Glen Williams ball associations the ladles men and minor ball clubs told the general administration committee that it would be a great loss to Glen Williams if the ball diamonds vanished We have 110 children In the minor clubs plus the men a and ladles clubs and without the ball park in the Glen we would have no place to play From what we con gather the park In Georgetown la already filled to its capacity We would like to see some deadlines set for making the decisions bo we know if are coming or going Mr Best furthered explained that for the post ten years the park has been leased for a fee of per year with all the maintenance done by free labor with money supplied from profits made at the refreshment booth at the park Aslcansecit the ball park has not cost the town one red cent We have reached the stage where we now need some help We fee wc have an excellent facility now and we would hate to lose it Councillor Morrow suggested that Doug recreation director of Hills look Into the matter and determine how much land Is needed for recreation and look Into the terms of what will or will not be available Councillor Morrow also suggested that at the same time Mr Colllson look Into other possible locations for a ball field either in Glen Williams or somewhere In the surrounding area Mr Irwin then pointed out that if a ball field was built similar to hat of the present one in Glen Williams It would cost about whereas the entire Davidson property Is for sole at a price of HBO but Mr Irwin was confident that this price was negotiable with Mr Davidson Mr Colli son explained that under the Ice rental rates at arena set again After an in camera session at Monday night general administration committee meeting between the committee and representatives of the Junior and In termedlate Hockey dubs of Georgetown he hockey representatives expressed disap pointment wKhthccommittees final decision on lee rental rates at the Gordon Memorial Arena The general administration committee has decided to recommend to council hat the ice rental rotes at the new arena for both Junior B and Intermediate clubs bo set at per hour and that separate agreements will be signed concerning playoffs The rates during the playoffs will be per hour or split whichever is the At the same time the general ad ministration committee decided that the community hall at the Gordon arena be rented to the Junior and Intermediate clubs at per night for eight consecutive home games After the eight consecutive home games the rates will bo renegotiated after a financial statement is presented by both clubs This agreement can be cancelled by either club with one week a notice Seniors to Stewarttown The Senior Citizens dub trf Georgetown bos decided that they will hold their regular meetings at the Stewarttown Hall leaving the cottage In up for grabs The Senior alliens Club had explained to Doug Colllson recreation director for Hills that the organization needed larger facilities to carry out their meetings and their special events The senior will be the hall on the second ana fourth Monday and the second and fourth Wednesday of each month leaving the hail open for
