THE HERALD Wednesday September 10 MIS Georgetown ambulance crew Clergy Comments What kind are you What kind of neighbors do you have There arc so many kind excellent neighbors How about you Have you the sort who way I keep myself to myself They do not mix or engage in the life of the community selfish and secluded lives They value their privacy and or course one respects that Or is yours always popping in and out perhaps never even bothering to knock It can be awkward sometimes Do you have neighbors who are always borrowing a cup of sugar a few tea bags and forget to pay back Perhaps you have one who is always complaining Thcchildrcnmaketoomuchnolse or your weeds protrude through the fence Or are you on the receiving end and have ones who use radio and television as a public address system and keep all the windows open for good measure And ore there bangs shouts and slamming doors at all hours of the night My concern Is for those who live alone especially elderly housebound and Infirm Those who cat all their meals In solitary alienee and never hear a live human voice opart from the mailman or the meter render or the landlord The days ore long and the nights even longer especially when you cannot sleep Are there any next door If so when did you last call This leads on to the question what kind of neigh bor are you How fortunate were the neighbors of Jesus Joseph and Mary would be an ideal couple to have next door Joseph so practical and useful Should anything need flxingoratoyneedmending pop it over to Joseph put it right Mary so kind and motherly practical and never flustered The children well behaved but probably very noisy at times for I am sure there would be great deal of laughter and gaiety in that house A constant stream of people would always be popping in for a chat or help If you were in trouble where you would know where to go Behold I stand at the door and knock Jesus must have knocked on many doors He would always be welcome It Jesus do come in People would be better for His coming they still are A lonely ostracized man hears Jesus Inviting him for a meal and a chat It was an unforgettable occasion becomes different man In his Poem Tears and Scruples Browning writes about the God who draws near to us in our friends Hush now I pray thee- what If that friend happen to be God When did you last visit your neighbor Or are you feeling lonely and forgotten Listen There Is Someone at your door Let in I competed in the recent In Rescue and First Aid Association Competition held in Minneapolis Minesotn over the long weekend are already
