but this represented the only offensive effort for either team In the stanza and the Kings led 31 after 40 minutes of play For the first ten minutes of the third period the game was up for grabs as both learns had ample scoring opportunities The feeling was that the team that scored the next counter would likely take control and this is Just what happened as Al Arnold hit for the Kings at the 13 38 mark his second goal of the game and gave his team a lead Hay scored his second goal of the game unassisted effort less than three minutes later and the verdict was decided Royal Pizza Kings got a well deserved 52 win Sandhill had been displaying an inconsistent brand of hockey of la and perhaps this lulled Total Sports into a false sense of security In any case this warm blanket of security turned out to be a wet rag as Sandhill recorded a win The game was close for two periods and although Sandhill led 30 after minutes of play Total Sports were still very much In the game Sandhill s Kevin Judge assured his mates of the win however as he scored twice in the first 11 minutes of play in the third period to put the game out of reach The other Sandhill marksmen were Rick Jim Kerr and who chipped In ID points Windsor Brennan Is regarded as possibly the best Senior squad In Windsor and the main reason for this is that they have Stan a Wunderkind who is touted as the best basketball propsect to come from the Windsor area in years scored 14 points in he first half of the contest but was limited to five points for the balance of the game as Rick Gourlie applied an effective defensive blanket Windsor took the game but the Rebels high scorer in his game as he hooped 19 points Doug Lamb con tributed nine paints while Paul aided the cause with eight points This Friday Applewood High School of will bring their Junior and Senior squads to Georgetown for exhibition Hits with their Rebel counterparts The GDHS Rebels swim team competed In their first interschool meet his past Friday at the Acton pool and finished second behind Nelson High School of Burlington and ahead of High School Nelson compiled a total of points Georgetown had 144 points and Acton finished with points The Nelson team has been a power In area high school swimming circles for years and although Georgetown finished well back of the Burlington crew the GDHS Senior team almost pulled an upset as they were narrowly edged 106100 Nelson brought 40 swimmers to Georgetown 23 and Acton For Georgetown Drew Clark picked up two firsts in the Senior boys SO metre Freestyle and the Senior Boys from the strenuous workouts that the team goes through dally it obvious that a serious attempt is being made to challenge the Burlington area high school a domination of the sport Last year for the first time several GDHS swimmers made it all the way to the Peel This year more of them should qualify and in John Glrvan and Cathy Mosson AllOntario crowns are not out of the question The Georgetown Indoor Pool will be the scene this Friday afternoon as hosts a tri meet with teams from Milton and High School of Oakvlile competing It Is expected hat the meet will get underway at 3 THE HERALD Wednesday December Page LI Geminis reach half in third place The Georgetown Geminis of the Central Ontario Junior loop picked up six points last week as they swept all three of their contests and at the halfway paint In their schedule are in third place in the league standings Just one point behind second ploce OakvlUe and eight points off the pace set by front running Burlington Up until a week ago It appeared that Burlington would run away and bide on the rest of the league but In the interim they have lost two games and appear to be going through a alight slump With a gome in hand the are naturally hoping that Burlington woes continue but their main concern at present is to widen the gap between them and fourth place Streetsville and similarly challenge for second place Central Ontario Junior B Dee TEAM GP Burlington 20 15 Oakvlile 20 11 Georgetown 10 10 Streetsville IB 9 Dixie Brampton IS 4 Milton 20 3 McKay plans to pick up where Martin left off Varsity B fall against Lord Elgin The GDHS Varsity B s hopes for a Championship came to a crashing end last Tuesday as they lost their semi final game to Lord Elgin High School of Burlington and thus were eliminated from further post season play The game was played on a neutral court at T A High School in Oak vllle and whether the comfort of playing on their home court would have made much dif ference is better left to the theorists as the Varsity B squad did not play up to top form Lord Elgin held a slim three- point lead at 14 then slowly but surely took command as the were unable to control the boards at either end of the court and failed to capitalize on their offensive op because of erratic shooting Caruso led the in the scoring department with a total of 10 points while Meredith contributed eight points Although naturally disap pointed at he loss coach Betty expressed satisfaction with the team in as a N whole This was Betty first year handling the She taught at Dryden High School last year and coached their Senior Girls team and the goal she set for the team was a season Last year the Varsity team finished fifth in the league standings and failed to moke the playoffs so Betty was merely at tempting to regain the team respectability To say that they surpassed expectations Is an understatement as they won their league title with a 51 record and advanced to semi final play by dumping Perdue in the quarter finals Betty has stated that she will return as coach next year and without flinching emphasized that next year team will be aiming for the Halton title Five members of this year team will undoubtedly graduate to the Varsity A crew but this should not seriously affect the Varsity title aspirations as a major reason for their success bis past season with the performances of several rookies Congratulations are due both the players and coaching staff of the Varsity for a fine season Things will be slightly this season for the GDHS Rebels wrestling team For the first time in years Lew Martin will not be at tho helm Martin whose wrestling credentials are respected throughout the province and In fact across Canada left Georgetown this post year to take up a teaching position at Smith Fails High School Ho left the team in he capable hands of Bob McKay who served as Lew a assistant coach but his shoes will be difficult to fill Over the years Martin has had many AllOntario wrestlers as well as several All Ontario Championships and his teams tournament wins are too many to mention He left In a blaze of glory as tbo Rebels won last years All Ontario Championship Bob McKay has devoted a lot of time and energy to learning about the sport and baa gained the respect of all the high school wrestlers for his efforts on their behalf This year he will be assisted by Mike Mc- and Ray Smith and the trio baptism of fire will come this Saturday as Georgetown hoots the Peel Many of the Schools will be competing as well as wrestlers from Centennial Grey Highlands High School of and Fergus High School The meet will get underway at proxmately am and Is expected to run through the afternoon and early evening Raiders open up lead The Georgetown Chrysler Raiders of the OHA In termediate A have opened up a fivepoint bulge over second place Port Colbome as league play moves Into December Port Colbome boa four games in hand and while these game will take on increasing Importance ai the schedule wears on for the present there Is no question that the Raiders are the class of the league They lead the loop in wins with 11 ore second only to Fort Erie in goals for and second only to Part in goals against In this case statistics really do tell the tale and the Georgetown Chrysler Raiders deserve their lofty perch atop the league standings Intermediate
