well known and well liked comrades this past week when on Tuesday December 2nd we lost John Beat tie and on Friday December we lost Jim Dobble John I knew quite well He was in our Colour Party on many out of town parades and guarded our colours with pride He was standard bearer at many of our monthly meetings John was also a member of the Initiation Team and a member of the Imperial Section If something needed to be done at m it would be John could count on to say hed do It and It would be done Reliable honest as the day was long a dedicated That was our John Beattie Our Padre Rev Peter Barrow officiated at a Legion Service on Wednesday evening with close to 100 comrades In attendance with several comrades coming from Oak villa and Brampton Legions as well To Marlon we extend our moat sincere sympathies Jim I did not know except by sight Apparently Jim suffered a heart attack at the hockey game lost Friday and later died A Legion service was held on Sunday evening for our late comrade with Rev Peter Barrow leading the service There were many friends and comrades out to show our most sincere sympathies also As the year draws to a close I realize we have lost ten of our members As I read last weeks paper and saw the pictures of the entertainers who were present to entertain our senior citizens I looked forward to the time I fit that category know many of you thought 1 had already reached it When I saw that our were among the talent present along with some members of our pipe band Johnston John McLean I thought to myself that those folks had been royally entertained Well last Saturday I was among a crowd at the legion who were royally entertained when the put broad smiles on our faces and tears in our eyes from laughing so much with their antics and heir famous renditions of Apple Blossom Time Cab Driver San Francisco Bay Blues I Remember You You re Nobody Til Somebody Loves You and Butcher Boy Wright Smith Jack Ferguson George Sandlfer don t get older they get better They received a standing ovation and shouts or more more more filled the noil They were great as was the whole evening We danced to the records played by Pete Edge saw good friends Bob and Allison Greenandher dad Norm Ward won the first spot prize There were many guests present and we had a lovely salad plate just before the end of the evening The evening was called an Initiation Team Reunion but really it was a special night In the life of our good friend Harry Savings who started with the Initiation Team back In 1M0 Now I think years service should be recognized and a more deserving man could not have been honored than our Joining in the legion and our branch In particular should not be taken lightly Between Jim Collier who states the purposes and objects of joining the legion and Harry Savings who held the position of president and conducted the initiation Service they lent pride and dignity to the ceremony Many branches ask our team to be present when they have a membership night and once you have seen our ceremony and especially been part of the evening when you join you pick up the pride that Jim and Harry have created Harry Bottoms who la Team SgtAtArms had the pleasure of presenting to Harry a gift of a winter Legion coat and all present heartily acknowledged the many years service Harry had given to the branch Our best wishes to you Harry Harry Bottoms also expressed the appreciation of all team members to their good wives who had spent many hours at home while they were either our practising usually on a Sunday end the many nights out
