Page HERALD News Norval has won its fight by Dorothy McLean The battle for Norval school ia over and nobody really won the war lost the as a school the Halton School Board won that round but with Halton council going to bat for an agreement reached with the board after several meeting purchase ind the property recreational purposes for the sum of 500 So will now have a community centre and the children will still have a place to play an unexpected victory Bloat people In the community had given up or were afraid to nope that an agreement could be reached It will be many yean before the bitterness will be forgotten that built up over the yean of fighting between the Halton School Board who In slated that the school be closed and the ratepayers of district who tried In vain to keep It open now Julian Reed who made nil decision to enter the political field because of the School Issue Julian never gave up the tight A committee from the Community Association composed of the president Hugh Pat Patterson and Mrs Pearl Guthrie have been meeting with representatives from Halton Hills council and representatives from the Board of Education to try to comatose that school for a badly needed community centre Several unsuccessful suggestions were made such as renting the school then an offer was made by Hills council to purchase part of the property Host of the people in the community were unhappy about this offer but decided that something was better than nothing at all but the children would lose a place to play away from the busy highway It with great surprise and happiness that the news of the final agreement was received by the disheartened ratepayers This is wonderful news to end the first year of the Community Association They have worked bard for this and appreciate the help of the members of the Halton Hill council This are is growing rapidly with more and more forms being sold for sub divisions so Halton Hills council were wise to see hat It is important to save a place for play recreation and relaxation in this busy world A place to stand a place to grow In old Ontario Yes Virginia there really Is a Santa Claus A meeting of the Nerval Community Association was held In United Church on Tuesday evening December with Hugh He Farlane presiding The very successful dance reviewed and reports given A vote of thanks was extended to treasurer Mrs Marie Carney who was in volved In a lot of extra work for the dance and to Pat Pat chairman of the dance committee for their excellent planning of the evening It was decided to hold the annual meeting on Tuesday evening January so mark your calendar now and to have a meeting of the executive a week previous to plan the agenda for the public meeting Yearly membership dues will be due at the annual meeting and It la hoped that many new members Join Some kind of activity for the children of the community during the two weeks of Christmas holidays was discussed Randy will nave a meeting of his com rnlttee to see what can be Then i nothing new to the school situation that talks were con but they bad all been held behind closed doors Unit Two of Norval United Church Women held their Christmas meeting at the heme of Mrs Betty Johnson on Wednesday evening December 10th with Mrs Edna Murray presiding and IS members prsent A Christmas theme devotional given by Mrs Jean Held and Christmas readings were given by Mrs Lola Held and Mrs Betty Johnson Mrs Jean Dunlop conducted a contest after which popcorn and crso berries were strung for the Sunday School Christmas tree and gifts were exchanged A delicious pot iocs luncnand fellowship hour ended the enjoyable evening Unit One of Norval United Church Women held their annual Christmas luncheon at the home of Mrs Murray Laird on Thursday afternoon December 11 with IS present Following the delicious luncheon Mrs Ed McLean presided for the meeting In the Contd page
