Branch 1 honors its hardest workers On Friday evening members and their wives or husbands began arriving foe the first annual Honours and Awards Night for Branch This was a night set aside to let our many dedicated and hard working members know Just how much we have sincerely appreciated all their efforts on of tbe Legion and Branch no In particular Our Commnnder Greenfield and his wife Ber nice were present for evening having come up from Branch to enjoy the evening Thirteen members of the Legion pipe band favoured us twice during he evening and as always were very well received Drummers out entertained by the Brampton Clown Band while we were waiting for Santa appear He was right on time to the delight of all the youngsters and Santa went around to each and everyone of the kiddles before be settled down to greet them at the Christmas tree and listen to heir long list of Christmas gifts When it was all over the band entertained down In the Friday evening was one of our big nights at the Branch when we held our first annual Honours and Awards night We honoured Dorothy Day Dorothy Stone Audrey Martin John Beat tie Jim Eraraerson Harry Bottoms Lloyd Boyd and Dennis Wright with cer tificates of merit We also honoured Charlie Day Nick Garvin Ralph Norm Ward and Buster Hale with life memberships certificates of merit and they will also receive lapel pins Our pipe band played for us twice during the evening Not as many attended the evening as was hoped Many members were conspicuous by their absence but hopefully they will all show up next time April 3rd when we bold our next awards evening to honour many mora deserving members for their efforts on behalf of Branch 120 Auxiliary members dont forget your general meetings this Thursday evening beginning at p and is a supper Everyone please bring something It sounds like It will be a good evening to attend Im surprised to learn that some of our members are taking advantage of the fact that we have tickets left over for our New Years Eve dance and are coming in for more than one ticket or their gusts It did say In the paper that any tickets left over on Monday December lSlh would be sold to members for their guest the Branch do something for these many good people and to rccognUe their services over the past years beginning with members who had Started way back In the The committee comprised of Chairman Henry Buster Hole Mac McLean Ralph Hawes Tom Elliott and Tut Harrison have done a thorough and exceptional Job They thought that this Job would be a cinch but after going back over the records the past 30 years they found it than they figured it so rd given time talent and knowledge to our Branch making It the best Branch in our Zone district and probably in Ontario That Just my personal assessment shared by many other members in the Branch Mac said we are Just honouring a few tonight and throughout the next few months we hope to honour all names on the list Our next date set for Honours is April and Mac that those members honoured at a later date are by no means honoured less than those tonight but the committee started at the beginning and will continue on until all deserving members are honoured CERTIFICATE OF MERIT AWARDS JOHN John was one of our most dedicated members and our hardest worker He would have been so proud to have been so highly honoured by his Branch but It wasnt meant to be as John died two weeks ago and Marion his wife accepted his DOT DAY Dorothy was recognized for her years of dedicated service to the Branch having been a most active member of the Ladles Auxiliary and many times President of tbe Auxiliary DOROTHY STONE Dorothy Is one of our members does such a beautiful Job maintaining our Book of Remembrance which Is notably the best in Ontario Also Dorothy has done our portraits of the flag poppy and torch for our Initiation Team AUDREY MARTIN Audrey help Dorothy with the Book of Remembrance and looks after Remembrance Day dinner with setting up the bead table and also looking after many articles of value for our initiation team President Denny Wright had the pleasure of presenting these awards to these most deserving recipients and we all heartily agreed JIM Jim has spent many years working for the Branch and has been a member of the executive holding many offices A valuable member still HARRY BOTTOMS Harry has spent many years In the Branch been executive members Branch Sgt At- Arms and presently Is Sgt At- Arma of our Initiation Team He also it still a valuable member of the Branch LLOYD BOYD Lloyd has served on executive and has done a superb Job as our branch Service Officer helping many members and or their dependents have a more comfortable existence and seeing to their general well being A well respected member HERB ROBINSON Herb has been a standout member for many many years around the Branch and working In kid hockey giving many hours to this cause on behalf of Branch DENNIS WRIGHT Denny la our President who is given his time and effort in support of Legion committees HARVEY NICK GARVINS citation reads After service with tbe Highlanders in World War Comrade Nick became a member of Branch ISOalthecIoseof 1M5 During his years as a member of Branch 120 he has devoted 10 years as active member of the executive He was a member from IMS until 1051 and for the next two years served as second vice president w M
