Memorial Hospital applied the ministry of health to be allowed to build an addition servo extended care pat ients The ministry refused permission saying the Region already had enough nursing homes lo serve its population Judge Ken a mem ber the GDMH board said that because of the way the district health council handled Ihe request for extended care beds Ihe board was left with he impression that the council Is merely an of Ihe ministry We hove the attitude that the health council said Yes here is a need weve identl fied the need but the ministry says you cant build soso long boys Judge said Terry chairman of health council said there is an extended care committee which Is trying to resolve Ihe discrepancy be tween the figures from the ministry and the figures from the hospital You keep drawing the line at Steelcs Ave Mr Baines said I find it strange that within a stones throw south of is the largest extended care facility in George Gray chairman of the board of health said there is currently a three month waiting period at the centre south of Avenue He condemned the ministry for refusing addition al extended care and nursing home facilities and at the same time calling for budget cutbacks which would affect home care program If we cant look after peo ple one way we have to do it the other he said Mr Barnes said that if pa presently receiving ex tended care in bed intended for active treatment patients at a cost of per day are placed in a nursing home at a cost of per day the active treat Letter drive for unity Hamilton newscaster and commentator Tom Chennglon is leading a national unity drive in form of a Letters to campaign Mr hopes the campaign will result in five million letters supporting a unified Canada and he plans to deliver letters personal to
