once again hold ing annual Trees for Canada project The boys in the District will be planting 12 trees April On April the scouts cubs will start canvassing to it sponsors for the 25 trees that each boy will plant The Scouting movement the continued support of the community in this project Trees for Canada a Canada wide project designed to give all Scouts the to demonstrate through action their concern for their country Three million trees will be planted this year Trees for Canada Is a fund raising project Most of the funds raised through this project stay in the community to help further Scouting at all cvcls from Beavers right through to Rovers Some of the money goes to International Brotherhood program Operation Amigo a program designed to help the South American countries adopt scouting to their needs This year ti c planting will take place with the coopera Hon of the Credit Valley Conservation Authority in This needed reforestation will provide wildlife inhabitants with food and shelter Trees for Canada Is a project concerned with tomorrow the trees planted this year will reach maturity when the Scouts who planted these trees have children of their own A tomorrow which will be better because our community supported Scouts in this project today A potential Increase of 18 per cent in the Halton regional levy over last year has convinced the region s mid finance commit tec to hold off any final decisions on the i960 operating budget Ernie the regions chief administrative officer as directed by the committee last Wednesday to come to the next meeting with recom for substantial cuts in budgets already approved by the regions standing committees The i960 operating budget was scheduled to go to regional council today Wednesday for approval but will now be delayed until April 16 One of the concerns express at last weeks committee meeting by Mayor Pete involved the potential impact of equalized assessment Introduced by the province the equalized assessment program Is used as criteria for apportioning shared costs among the four municipalities Mayor Pomeroy said he was unwilling to make any budget decisions before he knew the Impact on Hills property taxpayers since it was expected that Milton and Hills would face an increase When contacted Tuesday morning regional treasurer Don Farmer said he had just received the percentages from the province but did not have the dollar figures yet The proportion for Hills will be almost the same as in 1979 Mr Fanner told The Herald The town share under the new assessment procedures will drop slightly from per cent in 1979 to per cent in I960 Under the old system Mr Farmer added Halton Hills share would have dropped to 11 per cent Milton s share will rise from per cent in 19T9 to 11 1 per
