THE Ontario Outdoors BOBOLMVIER Sorry for the inert column last week and thank you toallthosewhocalledtoseebowlwafl I hope to be in good walking form for the opener of the Trout Season Due to this leg operation I was not able to get out see the Pike spawning run in Fairy Lake Acton This run was on for about eight or nine days when got a call from a reader saying he has noticed all through the run that local children have bothered the fish They would throw rocks at the running Pike and catch them take some home and throw many up the banks The culvert under the road where the fish run up to the flooded marshes was often blocked off completely This column has mentioned many times that if anyone including children Is breaking the fish and game Jaws in any way at all then coll the Ministry of Natural Resources Everyone knows they are the provincial government and still people ask where to find the number saying it is not in the phone book IT IS THERE Government of Ontario under the Ministry This number Is a toil free ZENITH I have learned it and also keep it In my wallet EDUCATE This great fishery as well as many others will be ruined forever If YOU do not do your part In protecting It and part of that job la to call the conservation officer If there a problem Another part of your is to educate your children and those children upon which you have some Influence Encourage other parents to do likewise and we may beat this Whoever it is not always children but sometimes adults that violate the fiah and game laws Some are Ignorant of their errors and some do it knowingly the Norval Is another problem area as there are a lot of trout In the river The season does not open until April and there Is no trout fishing until that time If your children bring home fish make sure it Is not a trout and If it la ho or she Is breaking the law plain and simple WORMS COME TO MIND With all kinds of birds back and nesting the frogs calling in the marshes trees bursting out then worms come to mind The earth worms are active and dew worms ore out at night when It la mild Worms make good trout bait with the preference going to the lowly earth worm for the streams and sometimes the dew worm for large river and lake run fish The trick is to match the bait to the size of the fish and my favourite bait for spring brook trout is a small earth worm on four pound test line with no weight and a number eight hook short shank Drift this under cut banks and in against banks where the current runs and you should get a mess of trout on opening day Dont bunch the worm on the hook but hook it once only through the collar and It will look natural and give lots of action which the trout love On my television show last week I mentioned a system devised by Brian the Sassy Shad representative and the one devised by yours truly These will be shown In detail this Saturday at Zellers in the Georgetown Market Plaza There will be a demonstration anddispkyaiaaJldayspcflsoredbyZelleraandZebco I will be on hand to answer all fishing all kinds and try to get you set for the opening day See the advertisement In this newspaper for some of the details I would love to meet you all here so come on out In force and let get It together Tor the following weekend Next weeks ONTARIO OUTDOORS will tell you where to go on the and how to fish those
