laughing at the thought of yours truly in her twilight years running up and down a school gymnasium furiously blowing a little whistle let me assure you I am not going in as head just an assisting body 1 hope History has a terrifying way of repeating itself Eleven years ago when I attempted to enroll Richard cub pack I suddenly and unexpectedly found myself a member of the organizing committee Three months later my tacky kid decided cubs was not his thing but years later there I was still on the committee and enjoying It I hove to a am Well here we go again These worthy a apparently still have the same old problem too many children and not enough help So when I recently placed a phone call to get Teresa Into Guides and found she would be approximately number on the waiting list I graduate of Brownies and Guides Do you realize it means weekend camps and sleeping in tents Don worry everyone Ill look after her promised RUB STICKS You have to rub sticks together to start a fire and tie knots and things added Louisa helpfully Huh my husband interjected If your mother has the same problem rubbing sticks together as she does wielding a mop and broom the thing shes going to get out of it are blisters Besides he encouragingly added having kept her for 19 years In the lap of luxury your mother will never survive a weekend of burnt wienies and beans without a couple of bottles of chilled wine In the cooler I started to get annoyed at their cavalier approach Now listen you bunch of negative thinking lets keepmother in lot The guide leader told me it was good to have uninitiated people with no preconceived ideas as leaders Is there any good reason why girl guides only have to learn about bogs and frogs Maybe a little of the more stuff of life might prove to be very beneficial for them Knowing you my husband growled youll probably insist they dress formally for dinner and listen to Chamber music What will you do if it rains Youll get your hair wet the mosquitoes will attack some little eight legged creature might run over you In the night Besides who Is going to look after the rest of us while youre off having all this fun in woods I WORRIED LOOK Louisa took me to one side with a worried look on her face Mom I think there is something you should know about guide camps Enlighten me daughter dear Well there are usually scout camps In the same location and we sort of well you know like raided then at night time Did you now I thoughtfully replied I did not think it necessary to Inform the family that I could possibly be talked Into leading
