Yugoslavian recreational centre south of Acton have proved themselves responsible neighbors the towns general committee last week refuted to endorse a request for occas ional liquor permits being submitted to the provinces liquor board Charges were laid last year against Canadian- Yugola via Cultural Association repre sentatives Nick and Orbovlc for breaches of the towns noise bylaw follow ing events at the centre located on Highway near the Third Line charges were recently dismissed in Milton provincial court As far as Im concerned association members are welcome In Hills when ever they lie up loopholes in control anticipated problems the centre by not endorsing the permit request Without town support the association may have trouble getting occasional liquor permits but the committee was warned problems at the centre may not be solved by its decision and It may problems policing the centre Liquor permits enable police to carry out inspections on premises or a properly check ing for violations of the Liquor Act town bylaw officer Jack said Celebrants bound for the centre will have to bring Ihelr own liquor If the permits are eventual refused It means police will only be allowed to go on the property if they believe violations are taking place have permission from the landowners Supporting the request for endorsement of the permits Counc Dave Whiting said Mr Cajic and his group do not have the credibility they hod last year We have a responsibility to the residents in the area to notify the liquor board that we object to the application he said adding later that the centres users arc entitled to quiet enjoyment of their prop erly Councillors Pam Sheldon and Marilyn Serjeants on agreed that the permits arc a privilege should not be extended until Ihe centres owners have convinced council noise problems will be trolled Responding to a question from Coun Miller Mr Cajic said It would be too expensive to purchase a sound system which could not be tampered with once an accep table level of sound had been established He would try to convince his organization to spend the mon ey on an acceptable sound system Mr promised otherwise he will
