Realtors seek budget change EDITOR NOTE A copy of he following Idler to Ontario Premier Bill been submitted to The Herald for publicat ion Dear BUI The members of the Brampton Real Estate Board anxiously waited for the presentation of the recent Provincial Budget Frank Miller May The members were looking forward to the Ontario government plans to stimulate activity in the housing industry Unfortunately the aim of that even were of great appointment and we are concerned that the effect results wtll be short term and exclusive to a small minority of the aria populace Wc understand that the program of offering inter- cat free loans of up IS to first time buyers of new homes was Intend to stimulate the housing construction industry However thia plan Is lack in its overall potential to stimulate the economy Letters to the Editor niiiimn I SECTION A June IB I Case restated for PS Hike was worthwhile but messy EDITOR S NOTE A copy of the following letter to North Scout Commissioner John Sharpies has been to The Herald for publication Dear Mr Sharpies On page of the May Halton Hills Herald there were excellent features on Scouts Guides and Cubs in north The article on 1st Llmehouse Cubs told of the worthwhile 1 clean up program on Reg Road Another article described the eleventh annual North District Scouts What it did not say was that a tremendous amount of tter was left behind on the Bruce Trail after the Scouts had passed by Sunday the trail looked like a minor disaster area and took a good deal or clean up work on the part of some volunteer Bruce Trail Association members to pick up the garbage following the Scouts trek along the trail was commendable to have the boys complete hike and win points towards their awards but an I it more important to teach them the proper wilderness ethics for behavior in a natural area I am a Bruce Tra 1 member and very concerned about keeping the trail and respecting the landowners whose property the trail traverses Yours very truly George Roberts RR5 Georgetown of the Province as a whole and on a long term basis Your primary concern as well as ours it of course to allow first time buyers the right of home ownership and to get the buyers into the market place to free up rental units Wo feel that ttw grant offered Is dlscrlmln sling restrictive and that It fails short of potential chain reaction to the econ omy in its present form We believe that the gov should alter the budget so that the first time buyers have greater Incentive to purchase a resale home Amending the budget to provide the incentive by some form of assistance would also create a demand for the purchase of new houses Homeowners normally sell their properties to purchase a larger up graded home Present homeowners sell to meet changing family needs and are able to purchase larg and usually new homes because of equity acquired during the term of owner ship First time buyers cause of the larger choice available in all price rang Present homeowners who must sell because of changes In family status unemployment high int rates or necessary relocation are having pro blems which could be re lieved if be flnt time buyer came back to the resale market The entire economy would benefit by this greater increase in in the housing market Owners of homes new or resale make improve ments to their properties by purchasing appliances furniture landscaping supplies etc They also Gordon The massed bands there s no two ways about that The heavy games are alright but you have to stay and watch for a long time to get really interested I been coming to these games for six years and to the ones in Fergus for 19 years Craig Juby Georgetown I like the shot put and I want to do it one day too I don like the dancing but I think the drums are great Town hall Continued fr M by Messrs Eli Snyder John Cameron and a firm of Toronto architects anyone of which it was considered would very well meet the requirements of Acton at a cost of to W WW An amendment was moved by James Matthews and seconded by Edward Nick in recommending that a Town Hall be built at a cost of not more than 000 complete The original motion was carried almost unanimously Messrs James Matthews James Moore and Edward were appoint a committee to circulate a petition to the ratepayers praying the Council to lake proceedings toward the erection of a Town Hall This petition was circulated and very largely signed and after presentation to the Council THE FREE PRESS comments as follows There is now a prospect of getting a spacious Town Hal Council Chamber police celts and fire hall all of which can be paid for at a rate of about per thousand of assessment when extended over a period of twenty years We have no doubt that all will concur in the action to be taken by the Council at the next meeting In preparing a by law for such purpose and that a year hence we will see erected and completed and a credit to the place a Town Ilall in Acton which will compare favorably with that of any other village In the Province And thus we discover that our fine Town Hall which is still serving the needs of the ty had Its Inception In the month should be relieved now that the town has moved to rectify a traffic problem In their area The Intersection will get two add stop gns changing the intersection into a threeway stop Twelve residents Driveways tend to bo obscured as motorists approach the intersection and the Intersection Itself can catch motorists by surprise increase in tax revenue at all levels of government The Ontario government has to real lie that many homeowners with proper for sale are suffering personal and financial disaster The new budget has offered no relief for these taxpayers who real- ly are the backbone of our economy Instead the assistance has been chan exclusively to the now home builder Our suggestions must be considered by this rcspon government as they provide more opportunity to benefit all of the people of Ontario and not just a minority group We are looking forward to a change in the budget pro posals Yours truly JlmMcCreary President The Brampton Real Estate Board Dear People George town I am dropping you a line to let you know that I found my note and I did find my two girls Tired and hungry with their hanging over their shoulders at miles away from because Stewart town a gym was not avail able As I was writing my last letter I honestly felt something could be done about this situation if someone would take the time to point out certain wrongs that existed to a group of Individuals whom are elected to represent the best Interest of our young people Mind you I expecting ground breaking within the month but I must admit I expect ed more than what I got Hills school trustee Betty Fisher somewhat less than upon receiving my first letter A couple of weeks ago I spoke to her once again she now with our plight I was told by BUI Law son a board member from Milton that there was absolutely no reason to want or to believe that Stewarttown was In need of a thing at the present time Facilities in his eyes at Stewarttown are right where they should be Mr told me that in the new ion was constructed according to ministry specifications Now If our world had stood still since 1067 his opinion would be justified But seeing we have walked on the moon lived through the hippy and flower child generations remember Woodstock and way It changed our music Our hemlines have gone up down and back up again but still exists In the same state it was 13 years ago My opinion we axe tell ing our children to grow but they are not being given the proper facilities In which to do this grow log There are two haunting questions that play over and over again in my mind What are the ministry specifications in for newly constructed or add itions onto our schools Just how far behind is Why will Sr Public School in Oak vlllc be getting a new square foot addition Brookdale new addition will make it IB 000 square feel larger than George town Centennial School capacity is Stewart town is Only extra students will give Brook dale square feet and Contlnaed on page
