designations The vote came despite three years of debate and numerous petitions collec tively containing more than signatures One Caledon resident who addressed council that night and believes tax payers along the IHOfChlnKBacousy bound ary should be aware of he main objections has sub mitted the following tetter To the editor or The Herald May I please have the space to inform taxpayers of Caledon of the state ments I made when I was speaking in objection to Street Naming Bylaw July 11 am morally and financially affect by he bylaw and therefore I object to the bylaw A rural area is normally known by Its lines and aider on Therefore I object to this will have sis days to change their drivers licences and vehicle ownerships when this bylaw becomes law Check your licence Reading from the letter to Caledon from the mini of transportation and communications dated Mayo The Highway Traffic Act Regulation requires the holder of a drivers licence to notify the ministry where be has changed his address At I understand the proposal there Is going to be a new system of Identifying con cessions and In such circumstances the driver would be subject to the provisions of Ontario Regulation 2 Section requiring him to notify the ministry of a change of address This record Is used by the ministry and other enforcement personnel In order to Iocs to the address at which a person resides If the proposed system in Caledon will effect a change of name of con cessions and so lhat the lawful name of the street is different from the present description every person who holds a drivers licence residing on that street would have to notify the ministry of a change of address 4 It Is strictly incon venience and a COST to all taxpayers Chinguacousy residents have been concerned of having lo change their licences and vehicle ownerships The bylaw states for public convenience The Inconvenience this bylaw will cause A Drivers have to fill out their licence and send half of it away to the ministry because of the change of address B Owners of vehicles have lo procure a form Over 1 000 graduates recommend Young Drivers of Canada Tig n coast lo coast a lor all ages Course lee completed and sent to the ministry This bylaw changes the map of Caledon To change the map Tor such a small area is an expense to every taxpayer The map Is used at all levels of government we believe must be supplied by Ihe town The COST to tax payers of changing our map by the change of lines and to streets Taxpayers In Ward Chinguacousy mentioned to me the fact that cillors are elected repre sentatives of Ihe people to work with what we hove and not take anything away from us Therefore wc feel council Is obligated work with our lines and This Is rot Just changing names of our roads to street names but Is wiping out our good system of lines and slderoads As for our lines and this system has caused no catastrophe in our eight years of regional government This system belongs to our heritage The signal of mainly Albion taxpayers plus he I signatures mainly Ward 1 Calcdon residents plus the more than signatures NOW all from Ward Chinguacousy state tax payers and their families strongly oppose all street naming bylaws affecting our rural way of life As of today the ratio of objection from Ward residents is much higher than from the people Ward Albion and Ward Caledon who could not or would not accept street naming and house numbering The first objection received by council in June came with approximately signatures in the form of resolution asking thai no changes be made to the existing system and funds designated for the renamlng be allocated Instead to road imp rove- Taxpayers cannot understand that the reso lution has been Ignored and Is being ignored by this bylaw 7 There Is no subsidy on these street signs as slated by road administrator New rural road signs of our lines and slderoads are entitled to per cent government subsidy which was stated We are concerned that streets may not be eligible for subsidy lhat our present lines and roads receive The petition with over signatures of Ward residents clearly states their oppo sition lo any such changes and oaks that pertinent bylaws be rescinded The words for safely arc worded In this bylaw The Oil telephone number would surely serve the purpose For safely we request tl Is council to pish for the number for our municipality for a separate emergency number for each house were Ignored by council since June are even ignored at the time of this bylaw We ore In the computer age and each number Coded to a map would eliminate anyone In an emergency having to tell a l road they are on This bylaw Involves other matters as rural road subsidy for street signs rural route mail delivery at end of property assessment by the prov tax dollars for road Improvement change of map of road money going for street of Improve ment rights being forfeiting our Inge of numbered lines and I object to a rescind ed bylaw March 29 coming back against Ihe will of the people unusual council procedure Stand fast for your liberty This system belongs to our heritage This bylaw has to be presented to the taxpayers by a section In the Municipal Act Ontario law and NOW against signatures opposing street naming Mayor Clarkson Ward councillors Bill Hunter and Dick Ward Bolton councillors Keith McCreary and George Wright and Caledon Ward l councillor Archie Gould voted for street naming causing the rural taxpay to forfeit our good system of lines and Bolton YESTERYEAR Bound tor an exhibit In the ares
