celebrate the anni versary of its founding by the late Mover Formed originally by six ladies the organization has grown throughout tbe years to embrace a large number of crafts and a much larger membership A nonprofit Ion the group objective is the promotion of local arts and crafts in George town and area From time to time classes are arr anged concerning crafts deemed of Interest to the group as well as having guest speakers throughout the year In the 1950s In connect Ion with the Department of Agriculture the Commun ity Programs Branch approached the Arts and Crafts of Georgetown seeking its help to estab lish a night school at Georgetown District High School The organization proceeded to form a ens group and subse quently formed the first night school classes ever held in Georgetown some of its members taught classes there at that time From this effort night school classes have ex panded to reach their pre sent curriculum The association Is a member of the Hills Arts Council and is affiliated with tbe Ontario Craft Council Each year a sizeable donation is made to the Georgetown cultural Society the mon ey to be used as prices in the craft section of the fair The name will also appear on the wan hang Ings being booked by the Georgetown Rug Hookers Guild and will hang in tbe theatre at the new Hills Library and Cultural Centre Members are at present selling tickets on a lamb wool bench designed and donated by Ron Stevens husband of one of the members Proceeds will be used to purchase an art object for the Cultural Centre The wrought Iron gates which grace tbe entrance to the George town District Memorial Hospital were also a gift ion and sale la held at the North Golf and Country Club This year Oct IS every effort will be made to make the event a
