bit special tor this month They were celebrating the anniversary of United Church Women Previous to that there were two groups of wo men one group was the Womens Missionary Soc lety and the other was the Womens Association working for the United Church In 1902 they were united and have been known since then as UCW The September meeting of C was held Sept in the base ment of the church It began with a buffet Merhbers of St And rews Georgetown as well as past presidents had been invited During the meal Rev Thomas Bandy conducted an agape love service Interspersing the courses with scripture prayers communion and hymn singing Each past dent lit a candle and placed It on a beautifully decorated anniversary cake commemorating her term of service first president WlUa Shottill and the act president Joyce Clarke cut the cake Grace McEnery conduct the worship period basing her thoughts on the last chapter of the book of Salomon and the virtues of a woman and Peel president Ann Greene gave a very meaningful message led The Time Is Now Eileen McEnery com posed and read a poem Twenty Years Tor Our reminding the members of events which had transpired during the past years Excerpts from some of the minutes of the meet held in the first year 1962 were read and brought back memories of some of the prices of the activities current at that time Rev Bandy brought a very pleasant evening a close with a benediction One of the happiest evenings ever was spent In the Community Centre Friday night The congregations of St Andrews church in Georgetown and fad United church with their families and friends gathered In the hall for a corn roast and dance Despite the rain Paul Schwarc with his helpers managed to keep a good fire burning outside In which to keep the huge pot of corn boiling In the kitchen there was an ample supply of wiun ere and rolls coffee and orange drink for the kidd les To top off the meal there were cookies and cakes for those with a sweet tooth Talent from Georgetown and Balllna fad made up the six piece orchestra Those who dance enjoyed the music both old time and modem Jesse called off for square dancing The minister Rev Bandy spoke briefly and welcomed all He said although Ihls was the first of such a gathering he hoped It could be made an annual event We were sorry to bear his wife could not be present as the was ill at home with the flu Among those present were Walter and his wife Mr Behle took charge of the and Georgetown churches this summer while Rev Bandy was on vacation It was good to see many young people out as well as the children with their parents Those responsible for the excellent music were Charlie Crimes who played bass violin Terry Champ pianist and Ron on the drums all three from George town Also there were Ernie and Eileen from Ernie plays the violin and Eileen the piano About midnight the party ended and an enjoyable lime was had by all By KAY WILSON lUraM Mr and Bill Gra bam former area miscellaneous shower was held for brideelect Betty last Tuesday evening In United Mary Crawford opened with a few well chosen words for the guest of honor and together with Elaine Crawford conduct a couple of contests Winners along with the bride were Carol Catherine Ethel Webb and Kale Laidlaw Betty was assisted In opening her gifts by sisters Debbie Squibb and Han nah Reld Following a thank you from the bride lunch was served by the young ladies Mr and Mrs Pat held a very success ful sale of household furn ishings Labor Day Pat and Eileen have sold their farm and have bough a borne In George
