she was astounded that com plaints about the board budget came up so rarely She id she was expect ing more people to attack her about the million budget Either people are re signed to the fact or they just dont care Mrs Most people were really satisfied with the education their kids arc getting They were pleased with their schools and the teachers Concerned about the budget herself Mrs Fisher said she would be making special efforts to keep a commitment she made following the last budget to keep costs from soaring A newcomer to the board of educa tion though not to public life is Ward winner Richard Dick Beating opponent Jim for the seat vaca ted by the death Walker this September Mr 46 attribu ted his win to the personal contact he made with his constituents A Georgetown lawyer with his office on Main Street Mr said this is his fourth campaign and he was cohering the same area as when he was on council Before he left public office in 1976 Mr served three years on the farmer township of council another three years on the Halton Hills council and one and a half years as a regional councillor For the past four years he has been chairman of the library board and said now that he has won the seat as trustee he will have to resign from tbe library board Mr said his term would have ended in December any way and he hadnt been planning to reapply I think Jim for his tint tune running Levy hod Just about finished celebrating Monday night when con tacted at home by The Herald Under the circum stances because I waa tied up a lot during the campaigning I was real pleased with the re sults Coun Levy said I certainly didnt knock on too many doors People must have voted my post A councillor since 1969 he s been through nine elections so far but said it doesnt get easier as the years go by The general manager and comptroller of Roof- mart Ontario Ltd in Brampton Coun Levy said his business keeps him busy However from the res be was able to talk to he said he found people were concerned with taxes and most of them were aware that was his specialty Favoring tight budget control Mr Levy Is chairman of the Hills finance committee end said although the town Is very healthy now with no new debts and a balanced budget coming up for next year there will be financial problems In future Were ahead of many other communities Mr Levy said We started this year with over half a million dollars to good but It wont be so next year Hes already been working on next years budget and warns the coming year is going to be really lough Many councillors really understand what the are rience helped me get back In With two years expe rience behind her now Mrs McCauley thinks the learning process will con tinue still for her but many things wont be as difficult for her as when she commissioner Wilf McEachem from Ward Hydro Commiss ion seal Doug Mason spent 35 years with hydro offices In the area most of them In a supervisory position until he retired two years ago When all the polls re ported in Mr Mason had edged out Mr Mc Eachcrn by slightly less than votes ending a career on Commissions which stretched for more than IB years a Hydro commissioner for six years the last two as chairman of Hills Hydro retained his Ward 3 commission seat He was opposed by Misslss Hydro employee Norm Tretter and down town Georgetown busi nessman Ralph Fletcher Mr Fletcher the clos est oppo nents lost by votes although he proved to be strong competition for the incumbent as votes were counted throughout the evening Mr praised Mr Fletcher as a wor thy opponent who rhourt ted a strong campaign and worked at it He added that people have shown a continued Inter est in Hydro turning out lo vote for a new Commi ssion despite a lapse of several years since the last Commission was elected enough the production turned into a full scale collaboration between the Georgetown and Bramp ton groups run at Lester Pearson Theatre Nov and Dec followed by Dec 10 and performances at the
