School Oct for students in Grades through II Twentyone awards wero presented to the following students The First Line Tele vision Award for year one English was shared by Sonja Amstaetter and Tracy The Award for year one science was presented to Melanle Johnston The Indusmin Award for year two environmen tal science was presented to Kathy Johns The Dr L J Campsalt Award for year three biology was presented to Naomi The I A Scholarship for year two family studi was presented to Kathy Johns The Clothing Prize for year two French was awarded to Jane Sewell The Denny Insurance for year throe accounting was awarded to Jean Wong Bart Soder Brian Martin and Gerald were presented with awards for their outstanding achievement in technical studies Joe Condarcuri and Jessie Munro received for Grades 12 and 13 art from Art Sparks In the Optimist Club public speaking division Scott cd a cheque and trophy Scott placed third in Ontario Optimist Club s oratoric al competition Kelly White a Grade student received the essay citizenship award The Acton Optimist Youth appreciation award was presented to Scott for out standing boy and Carolyn Gibson for outstanding girl Trophies were present to the top students in Grades lOandll These students were Melanle Johnston Ian and Ann Koehler 111 Acton High School dents who entered the Canadian Math Contest made an excellent show ing In Grade 9 Helen Statey finished in the top per cent In Grades ID and finished In the top per cent in Canada and In Grade Glenn Archer finished in the top per cent In Canada The business education department recognized Josie DeVlrglllo who placed second In in the senior typing division and Jennifer who placed first in the short hand division writing 100 words per minute student Friday Oct 15 a day no one year Grade lis It involves fun more than competition Somebody usually bnngs and old toilet and its held by last years team At the end of the game It is present cd to the triumphant The and surround ing area Is decorated with banners of toilet tissue and reminds you of what you are playing for The students have a Miss Toilet Bowl this year the honored Indivi dual was Nick a fellow dressed up as a lady She Isn t very good looking but she gives great moral support I think the Toilet Bowl is a good event and should be kept going because It encourages a good and perhaps crazy tune and also the graduating pupils will have something to remember This year a school play has been chosen Done to Death Its a mystery tinged with comedy The cast has been selected and they are now busy memorizing
